I will be travelling solo in Puerto Vallarta from the cruise.  I want to go walk around the Malecon.  Do you think it is safe for me to take the bus alone or a taxi?

Thanks,

Yes absolutely safe. Be aware in most buses you need to pay in Pesos. 10 Pesos per ride. Get off near Hotel Rosita at the beginning of Malecon or any stop there after. Donot take the bus with Tunel sign. Sometimes you need to transfer to another bus near the stadium. Just show your ticket for the (free) connecting bus.

On the way back take a bus with sign Sams, aeropuerto or Marina. Be aware there are 2 walmarts in Vallarta, so let that sign not confuse you.

In cabs always make your price before entering. Ride back should be around Pesos 100/120.

Will the buses be running on Easter?

Yes they will. But Easter in general is extreme busy. Not just tourists but many mexicans on vacation. Beaches are packed.

There are also minivans at the Port, taking passengers from the Port to the Malecon -- I think it is $4 pp.  Very safe.

Indeed, but they arenot allowed to pick you up for the return.
