Sandra1616 Posted February 24, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2020 Hello I have heard of tasting menus? What are the? Did you try a tasting menu on your ship? How good was it? Sandra
clo Posted February 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2020 I'll be curious as to the replies here. A tasting menu is generally A LOT of tiny portions - a bite really - of different dishes. I'm not sure what a minimum would be, maybe seven. Here's a recent review, with pix, of a tasting menu in San Francisco. For one person the cost is $450 not including wine pairings. I can't imagine a cruise ship doing it but would love to hear about it. https://foodtalkcentral.com/t/atelier-crenn-sf/11009
pacruise804 Posted February 25, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2020 One of the mainstream lines (I think Carnival) used to have a Taste bar but it was just one or two items per night and similar to an amuse bouche before going to dinner. I think with the advent of more specialty restaurants it has gone away. Most ships have a Chef's Table which will feature several small dishes to make a large meal and this comes with a significant cost on many lines. I equate it to an excursion on the ship rather than a specialty restaurant. Many ports have food tours that give small tastes and history of the town. Royal Caribbean has Wonderland (up-charge specialty restaurant) on some of their ships and it is essentially a tasting menu, but I didn't find many of the dishes very good. It is probably the closest I have experienced to what clo posted (and a significantly lower price point) but some of the portions were quite large.

BruceMuzz Posted March 18, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2020 I manage smaller more upscale cruise ships. We offer tasting menus all the time. They are custom designed for whomever requests them. There is no extra charge.
