Fraud Alert

I wanted to cancel some shore excursions and a bottled water order for our Apr 3 cruise, so I called one of two numbers on our confirmation e-mail (888-425-9376). That number took me to a call center, probably in India, where we spent a long time "verifying identity". Despite my tingling spidey-sense, I stayed with them while they got my credit card info. They gave me another 800 number to call to actually cancel what I wanted to cancel, but it was busy repeatedly.

Then I called the other number provided by Holland America (206-626-7320), got through immediately, talked with a real person and got everything done without fuss. Next call was to my credit union to talk about possible fraud. There was a small charge to my account from some outfit I'd never heard of, checking out my info, I guess. Cancelled/replaced the card, so no harm done.

Bottom line is if you call Holland America and get a call center instead, bail out of the call right now. You won't feel as gullible as I do.

Not sure if this is what happened to you, but be careful when Googling tech support and customer support numbers. People with bad intentions have used SEO and other gamings of the system to make their (fake) phone numbers show up in the search results.

So you might Google "Apple customer support phone number" or "Quickbooks support phone" and the search result comes back with a toll free number that looks legitimate, but it isn't. When you call, they steal your information or worse.

Heck their own website on the side panel had an 800 number going to some media company.  I reported that one in a hurry to customer support which I had to google to even get the right number!  Always be vigilant.

Thanks for the input, Sumo. The numbers I used were provided on the shore excursion confirmation e-mail from Holland America.

Wow!  So sorry you had this happen.

Just for future reference, it's super easy to cancel shore excursions and purchases online -- and probably faster too.

How does one cancel online?

Login to HAL, go to my booking, go to itinerary, go to each port or day, if you booked excursions through HAL you will have a cancel link on the right of the buy button
