Disagree with this when Carnival is offering a free balcony and other goodies.  You just pay taxes and fees, which are fully refundable at any time.  So why not book, and if it gets cancelled, you get $600 in OBC added to your free room.

Absolutely!!!

Go ahead. You may end up on a cruise where the protocols are such that you hate every moment of the cruise in your free balcony. Who knows? That's my point.

Exactly . . . wearing a mask and social distancing throughout could only turn out to be a FREE nightmare. The bars and casinos would border on hilarious to me. Debarking and embarking at every port with social distancing in play would produce lines snaking throughout the ship. Let someone test POSITIVE at any port and BINGO, you're now looking for a port that will accept you for days, maybe weeks. There is a reason it's FREE, which is usually not true at all. 😏

You've got to be really addicted and in need of a cruise fix to buy into such malarkey, IMHO. What's next ? They offer to PAY US to cruise on their ship with some marketer's gullibility test ? 🤣

There is always the possibility of a bad cruise, but there is no way I would hate very moment of it.  I would at least get some enjoyment from spending time with my husband and taking in the water views from my balcony.

I am fully aware cruising will look much different than it did on my February cruise, but I am open to change.  Masks, ok.  Social distancing, ok.  Washing my hands, ok.  For all the downsides, there will be upsides.  No more 45 minute muster drills being crowded with others.  Fewer cruisers so easier access to some activities.  Shows being smaller scale but performed more often.  Less crowding in the dining venues.

If you are the type of person who can go with the flow, I say book the free cruise.  If not, I agree with you - those first few cruises are probably not for you.

Since the OP asked for advice on ships and not on whether or not to ever cruise again, then can't people give advice without saying how they will not cruise?  Somehow, the discussions always turn into how people aren't going to cruise for years when that's not even the question.

If OP wants to cruise, let him cruise.

He got a fabulous offer, which I think he should grab with both hands and choose the most expensive ship available for that particular offer.

how can you be so sure that the virus will be around forever?

This too will pass, just like the original SARS and MERS, and even Spanish flu a hundred years ago with primitive medicines and NO vaccine.

The major part of the SARS outbreak lasted about 8 months, since the World Health Organization declared SARS contained on 5 July 2003. However, several SARS cases were reported until May 2004.
