Amsterdam Dock Location

We are ending our Scenic river cruise in Amsterdam & planning to remain in Europe for a week before flying home.

The Scenic site doesn't list the location of the dock & we are wondering where we'll be getting off?

Near Centraal Station?

Our plan is to rent a car, so are debating whether its best to get one nearby, or travel to the airport and rent from there?

In the States, the rental prices can vary greatly depending on the location of the rental lot.

Docking is always settled closer to time of cruising.  The Port Authority has control of where you dock, so sometimes you may be outside the "central" area.  You don't say when your cruise is, so difficult to give more info.  The CD would be able to arrange transport to the airport or Centraal Station if you wish, not sure about a rental.  If you just need to get to the airport, you would probably be best to either take a taxi or the train, which runs directly to the airport from Centraal Station.

Rhine cruise late September, 2021.

Our package includes free transfer to the airport, but we may spend the day in Amsterdam before picking up a car and heading out of the city.

If the dock is unknown, we'll probably just take an Uber to the rental agency with the best rates.

Still toying with travelling by train instead, but we'll have bags and want to visit rural Belgium, so prefer having our own car this time.

As Daisi said, not all the river cruise ships dock near Centraal Station. Our river cruise (Viking) left from Coenhaven, which was a dock in an industrial area about a 15 minute cab ride from our hotel near the Rijksmuseum.

If you are renting a car, there are a few around the docking areas, and an Alamo as well as an Enterprise very close to Amsterdam Centraal (Google Map Amsterdam, and search car rental).  You may wish to do some research into rates etc. before you get there, and you can also probably arrange for a vehicle to be available for your departure date. Be sure to brush up on driving laws, they differ among countries.  Watch your speed as well...some places have 0 tollerance!

Travelling by train is easy, as long as you don't have large suitcases.  We travelled from Basel to Amsterdam along the Rhine and once we figured out the system it was so easy.  Mind you, we had knapsacks and small carryon's so could easily stow our luggage over top and under the seats.

You could get the Scenic staff to organise a hire car to be waiting for you or transport from the boat to the nearest hire company of your choice. Scenic used to moor near the station but last time it wasn’t in the same place, it was the very near the entrance to one of the canals sorry can’t be of more help there. The phone number and email of your vessel will be in the information pack and they to reply if you contact them. Enjoy CA
