19pamela68 Posted January 21, 2021 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2021 Hello, What's the best way to get around in Bermuda? Are taxi's by the minute or are they a flat fare? Excursion company's? Must do? Don't waist my time? Best food/restaurant? Best bar/drink? Thank you!
Rare 1025cruise Posted January 21, 2021 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2021 You're options for getting around Bermuda are public transportation, taxi, rent a scooter (don't do this), or rent a Twizy (no opinion). Assuming you will be at the dockyard where most of the ships dock (smaller ships dock in Hamilton or St Georges) you are at one end of the island. There will be shuttle busses to Horseshoe Bay beach. There is also a museum in the Dockyard. Personally, I enjoyed going to the caves. Probably cheaper to take a bus. You'll be across from the Swizzle Inn. latebloomer56 Posted January 21, 2021 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2021 Bermuda is one of the easiest places to get around. They have a very good public transportation system once you realize the ins and outs. We get a day pass for our full day there (been several times so no longer use ship excursions) most times we grab the ferry to Hamilton just walk up the road (there are signs or people are great giving directions) to the bus terminal. Everything is marked and when you get your pass grab a map this shows which bus. We always tell the driver where we are going and not once have we missed a stop. Also to remember if going with NCL they now have a private ferry to St. George this is great you can go there and take buses back stopping where you want or just take the ferry back later in the day. Excursions are nice for the first few times if we use them it's for our last day in port if there are any issues they need to get you back to the ship on way or another. Much info here on the tourism website. https://www.gotobermuda.com Can also order brochures sent from that site. I doubt that you are going to be cruising in April to Bermuda though. 19pamela68 Posted January 22, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted January 22, 2021 Thank you Charles. I did find that site after I asked my question on here. That is a great site. And just got notification that my cruise has been canceled. Thank you for your help.
Lady Lucy Posted January 26, 2021 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2021 If you go to Saint George on the ferry, I would try to go to Clearwater Beach. You would probably want to take a taxi from where the ferry stops, unless you can take the bus that goes all the way to the beach. A bus map will say "St. David's via Clearwater Beach", or something like that. The beaches are beautiful. There was a restaurant/bar there, but it wasn't open when we were there in October. I think they have new management, so I don't know what it's like now. We used to like it a lot. Be sure and walk down the road to Cooper's Island Nature Reserve(our favorite place in Bermuda). Really beautiful scenery! You'll also be close to the original Swizzle Inn which is a great place to have lunch. It's on the main road, soon after you cross the bridge leaving St George. The town of St George has very interesting buildings. You can usually tour the church there. There are several good restauants on the water. If you go to Hamilton, Flannigans, just across the street from the harbor, is a good restaurant/bar. It's nice to eat outside with a good view of the water. We like the Frog and Onion if you want to eat or just get a drink at the dockyard. In general, we usually like to take the bus as it's so much less expensive. Bus driver's are very helpful. You can just tell them where you're going and they'll let you know if you're getting of the right bus. I have a great trip!
Lady Lucy Posted January 26, 2021 #7 Share Posted January 26, 2021 So sorry that your trip was canceled. We had a trip planned last April and it was canceled. So disappointing. Just keep planning and day dreaming. You'll get there one day!
LB_NJ Posted January 31, 2021 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2021 Pre-covid we used public transportation, ferry and bus. I would NEVER, NEVER try a scooter. You can't rent a car. They drive on the wrong side of the road and a bus I was on almost hit somebody.
