ZoeyVictoria Posted February 8, 2021 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2021 I have had numerous cruises cancelled and maintain a spreadsheet to track them. I had no outstanding refunds due, but during a routine check of zero balance accounts, I found a refund from Royal. Four odd amounts, which I know is normal for refunds, totaling a strange amount - $391.36. It would be nice to believe that I just lost track, but I am positive that did not happen . Is it possible to call Royal and find out exactly what was refunded? Or will Discover be able to connect this refund with the original charge? Did anyone else receive a mystery refund? Sunshine3601 Posted February 8, 2021 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2021 A couple months ago I received a mystery refund to my amex card. I dont remember exact amt but it was around $100. I called rcl to book a new cruise and asked if they could tell me what the refund was for as I didnt have any outstanding refunds due to me, the rep said she had no way to track it and just be happy I received it.

I called Discover and was told refunds are not referenced in any way to the original charge, so they can’t track it, either.

But I will be following this thread out of curiosity. I would love to receive an unexpected refund! 🙂
RFerrington Posted February 8, 2021 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2021 I have not received any unexpected refunds but I did receive 3 separate unexplained OBC's in the amount of $100 each on 3 separate bookings. I used it, thinking that it would be rescinded but it has not been. I even cancelled one Cruise Planner purchase and fully expected the $100 OBC to go bye-bye but it was available for re-use when I repurchased the CP item Never have figured out where they came from. 1 of those freebies will go away when they cancel my May 23 Serenade Alaska cruise. The other 2, presumably, will remain unless those cruises are eventually cancelled.
ATG Posted February 8, 2021 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2021 Last week I got 2 refunds of $125.00 each. I have no idea what they’re for. I thought I’d give it a week and see if they disappear. But, if they can’t track, I guess I’ll just go with the flow.
ZoeyVictoria Posted February 8, 2021 Author #7 Share Posted February 8, 2021 The mystery was solved. Royal’s “enhancement” of the FCC program caused the amount of an already-applied FCC to be reduced (erroneously). The decrease in value was enough to drop my deposit to $9.72 less than required, so their computer automatically canceled my cruise. That is not a typo, it was canceled over less than ten dollars, and the alleged shortage was actually their error. My wonderful TA has had it corrected, and I will make a payment in the amount of the refund. So, anyone who has received an unexpected refund might want to check their list of upcoming cruises to make sure they don’t also have an unexpected cancellation!

Not what happened to me. Cruises for September and next February are still there.
sellwingri Posted February 8, 2021 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2021 I received a refund for $80.16 a couple of weeks ago. I worked with a Casino Royale rep for about 30 minutes going through all my canceled cruises and we couldn’t figure out why I received it. I wish they’d refund my March cruise money!
