Ombud Posted February 15, 2021 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2021 I'm trying (still) to get downunder again. Made it in 2018, 2019, we all know what happened with 2020, booked for December 2021. Is it better to take a shore excursion to Great Barrier Reef from Airlie or Port Douglas? My options are: 1. Airlie Beach -- Hardy Reef 2. Port Douglas -- Agincourt Reef
Chiliburn Posted February 15, 2021 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2021 I doubt you will be allowed into Australia as a tourist but who knows?. With the shore excursion I would take a excursion to the reef . They are both tender ports and the tender will take you to the marina where both private and ship tours will leave. Port Douglas and Airlie are both similar, small coastal towns , not a lot to see. A hour and you have see the place .You should be able to have a walk into town after the excursion.

Airlie Beach is a good place to take a tour to the reef as there is not much else to do there. In Port Douglas there are more options, you could also do a tour to the Daintree River and Cape Tribulation.
Ombud Posted March 4, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted March 4, 2021 Thank you @SinbadThePorter. I plan on taking ship excursions as I have a lot of nonrefundable OBC due to ship reassignments. I'll look up Daintree River and Cape Tribulation for Port Douglas
