gadaboutgal Posted March 7, 2021 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2021 My daughter, grandchildren and I stayed in Hotel Abbazia in 2016 after a Med cruise. After 2 weeks touring all over Italy, this is the hotel that they all remember the most and thought was the best. It was so convenient to everything, had a lot of charm. And the European breakfast was quite satisfactory. It is located near the train station and not too far from the bus depot, and was also great for catching the water bus to different places. Though it appears to be expensive, it is a good value-especially if you want something unique. It was originally a monastery and the breakfast room is in what was the chapel! Thank you for your new thread on the Ask a Cruise Question forum. 👍 It is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. However, your thread was off-topic there since your topic concerns a specific Port of Call. To help you out, I have moved your thread to the Italy Ports forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have been to Venice frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles and l👀k for thread titles of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that will be of interest to you. And don't forget, after your cruise be sure to submit your review for publication. Many cruisers will benefit from your experience! See How To: Submit a Member Review. I sincerely hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! Happy sails, Host Kat
mapleleaves Posted March 8, 2021 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2021 I haven't stayed there; looks like a lovely place. But be aware that if you;re coming from the airport by taxi or bus, you'll need to cross the Calatrava Bridge to reach the hotel. It's a large bridge, spanning the Grand Canal. Can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage or any physical limitations. A photo of the bridge in this link: 'How Many Bridges?' Hotel Listings | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com) If you think the bridge will be an issue, look for a hotel near the Piazzale Roma, which is where a taxi or bus will drop you off from the airport. The link provided above provides a list of those hotels.

sattva Posted March 21, 2021 #7 Share Posted March 21, 2021 We have stayed at the Abbazia twice and will gladly go back when we can. For an Italian hotel, the rooms are large and welcoming with good bathrooms. In good weather, you can take your breakfast to the large and lovely garden. Helpful and friendly staff, too. It's our favorite Venice hotel. Do beware of having to drag suitcases over the awful Calatrava bridge. If coming from the airport, take the bus to Piazzale Roma, then the vaporetto to in front of the train station. Hotel is very close but on a quiet little street away from the station and all the tourist chaos.
