abbazia hotel venice

My daughter, grandchildren and I stayed in Hotel Abbazia in 2016 after a Med cruise. After  2 weeks touring all over Italy, this is the hotel that they all remember the most and thought was the best.  It was so convenient to everything, had a lot of charm.  And the European breakfast was quite satisfactory.

It is located near the train station and not too far from the bus depot, and was also great for catching the water bus to different places.

Though it appears to be expensive, it is a good value-especially if you want something unique.  It was originally a monastery and the breakfast room is in what was the chapel!

I haven't stayed there; looks like a lovely place.

But be aware that if you;re coming from the airport by taxi or bus, you'll need to cross the Calatrava Bridge to reach the hotel.  It's a large bridge, spanning the Grand Canal.  Can be difficult if you have a lot of luggage or any physical limitations.

If you think the bridge will be an issue, look for a hotel near the Piazzale Roma, which is where a taxi or bus will drop you off from the airport.  The link provided above provides a list of those hotels.

We have stayed at the Abbazia twice and will gladly go back when we can.  For an Italian hotel, the rooms are large and welcoming with good bathrooms.  In good weather, you can take your breakfast to the large and lovely garden.  Helpful and friendly staff, too.  It's our favorite Venice hotel.

Do beware of having to drag suitcases over the awful Calatrava bridge.  If coming from the airport, take the bus to Piazzale Roma, then the vaporetto to in front of the train station.  Hotel is very close but on a quiet little street away from the station and all the tourist chaos.
