cheeseheads4ever Posted March 31, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) Wondering if any fellow cruisers have gotten a great deal on a cruise through the Blue Chip Club then after booking are told that they could not get Cruise Travel Insurance with Celebrity? was told this was because we got such a great deal? Doesn’t make sense to me. Edited March 31, 2021 by cheeseheads4ever
cheeseheads4ever Posted April 1, 2021 Author #2 Share Posted April 1, 2021 Hopefully the above post makes sense to readers. I don’t understand why Celebrity would say they couldn’t supply travel insurance? What’s the difference if it’s a $500 cruise or $10,000 it’s based on cost of cruise? dkjretired Posted April 1, 2021 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2021 Never booked a Blue Chip but are they handled by a separate TA, if so that may be the reason.
highway180 Posted April 1, 2021 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2021 I've booked several, but never bothered with travel insurance. Any money paid is 100% refundable.
cheeseheads4ever Posted April 1, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) As long as you cancel prior to final payment and don’t need any travel insurance after that or during the cruise. I won’t take that chance. But Celebrity is telling me I have to go to an outside party for travel insurance. Don’t know if anyone who has booked through the Blue Chip Club and got a casino rate has heard of this. May be something new. highway180 Posted April 2, 2021 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2021 All blue chip cruises are 100% refundable All you pay is taxes and port fees. They will add gratuities as well prior to final payment. Also AI does not apply to these bookings. Rules are different, as Blue Chip operates as a separate entity so to speak.

cheeseheads4ever Posted April 3, 2021 Author #8 Share Posted April 3, 2021 It’s not a $500 cruise it’s much more but my point was why does it matter to Celebrity whether it’s a $500 or $10,000 cruise you pay for travel insurance on cost of the cruise and what coverages you need. I was just using numbers to explain. Sorry for the confusion.

Rare hcat Posted April 3, 2021 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2021 Cruise ins isnt just for cancellation or delay or lost baggage but some extra policies beyind Cruise Care cover increased med expense and evac . Very essential in our opinion. Sorry we do not know the reason for needing a sep agency to get the policy..Are you sure it is b/c of Blue Chip or another reason or possibly the state where you reside.? We live in NY state..so we have to purchase the Celeb cruise care sep through an agency designated by X...It is a big Pita...and not always refundable as we learned. We also buy a supp policy for extra med and evac coverage. US Medicare and our secondary ins does not cover outside US. We never cruise without ins.. cheeseheads4ever Posted April 4, 2021 Author #11 Share Posted April 4, 2021 When we originally booked with the Celebrity Rep in the Blue Chip Club we mentioned Insurance to him he said we could get the insurance through them later. Then 3 weeks later he said we got such a good deal on the cruise they wouldn’t insure us and we had to go to a travel insurance company. We’ve gotten insurance through Celebrity for other cruises in the past so being in Florida is not an issue. My problem is we are past the pre existing condition deadline because we were going to book though Celebrity. Had we known this we would have booked the Travel Insurance through an outside Travel Insurance Company right away after booking cruise.
cheeseheads4ever Posted April 29, 2021 Author #12 Share Posted April 29, 2021 Update! After a couple weeks of scratching our heads not understanding why the Blue Chip Club said our cruise couldn’t be insured with Celebrity Cruise Care because of our lower fare. I told my DW let’s try celebrity again before we contacted outside insurance. We did get ahold of someone in Celebritys Cruise Care Dept. she said there was a mixup with my Blue Chip Club Rep. if you are comped a totally Free cruise then they won’t insure you because it’s free. But if you pay a portion of the cruise like we did then you can get Celebrity Cruise Care insurance, makes sense now. So we did. I did notice the medical and evacuation is pretty low but wondering I’d I can get a rider to raise those levels? The Original Rep in Blue Chip Club did a flawless job if he didn’t give us bad insurance info. Other than that he did a good job.

I too was told by a Blue Chip rep that we couldn’t get Celebrity’s Cruise insurance when booking a cruise through Blue Chip Club, even though we were paying a fairly significant amount for our cruise. Would you mind sharing the phone number you called and extension or department to ask for to get this corrected so we can follow up? Thanks in advance. cheeseheads4ever Posted May 2, 2021 Author #16 Share Posted May 2, 2021 The number we dialed was 1-800-760-0654. It was just a mixup on the Blue Chip Club Reps information to us.

And even if you are too young for Medicare, many employer or marketplace policies do not cover medical costs when traveling outside the US so travel insurance is necessary.
