If I could have worked out the logistics of it all, I'd swing a free cabin for you. Solo! I'd book 2 cabins with you and DS in one so we could take advantage of my free Cheers offer that is only valid with 2 in a cabin. Once aboard, my boy'd claim his bunk in our cabin and you'd sail free plus port fees/taxes/tips.

I already had a cruise to Alaska booked on the Miracle for May of next year, 10 day out of San Francisco. at a great price, but this was a great surprise i could not say no too. plus Airfare was cheap..round trip $160.

Lol I love kids and they like me. Sounds like a plan. I'm a good babysitter. I like animals and kids. Works for me.

We did an Alaska cruise in 2018 on the Norwegian Jewel.

I would actually say that it doesn't matter since you are really using the ship as a floating hotel to see Alaska.

So I'd look at what ports you want to see, whether you want to do land trips before and after, etc.

I woudl also be looking at prices as having a balcony or ocean view is awesome to see the scenery.

We did have a balcony and you are right, it's great to see the sights.  Our trip was 10 days which only added a day at Denali.  I'll check Norwegian for longer trips

But.....  if they did sneak in that we have to be vaccinated, I will cancel.  In a heartbeat ...   Not a whisper of this was mentioned when we booked.

For all those that do not have vaccine and need to cancel...  they are returning my deposit.  For all those that question why I have not gotten the vaccine...  it's my business, not yours.

At 8:30 this morning we got an email from Carnival from the casino department offering us a free obstructed balcony room on an Alaskan cruise and free drinks while in the casino. They had a big list of different cruises to go on this year. I had some work I had to finish before I could book it and finally got around to booking at 10:30.  Sorry, all sold out. Reminder, self, don't hesitate next time......

I've done 12 Caribbean cruises and 2 Alaska cruises.  Top 3 were the two to Alaska and one that hit St. Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Lucia and Barbados.  I would do Alaska again before doing any of the other 11 Caribbean itineraries, all things being equal.

Prior to the Email hitting my inbox I called carnival for another issue. The lady on the phone asked me if I was calling about the "Alaska" offer. I said no, and she said "good, it is sold out." I guess some people (travel agents?) got a heads up and scarfed all the tasty cabins very quickly.

I'm sure travel agents are mostly in bad shape (if not bankrupt already), and hope to use this as a lifeline to get back to some sort of stable financial footing.
