I loved the magic. That class has the best spa with the T mineral pool.

I have her sister the breeze booked. Only 2 ships have restarted so no one knows yet what the other ships will have.

Carnival does have good comedy club. Dont know what kind of cabin you booked but enjoy slightly larger cabins is nice. I dont think anyone can say much about music groups except on horizon and vista so far.

The Magic's decor will seem very dated as compared to any Royal ship. Think '70s gaudy Vegas Casino hotel and that's the vibe you will get. Carnival's cabins are also very basic, especially the bathrooms. Carnival has lots of complementary food choices, more than Royal, and they're all pretty good. The main dining room dinner food is about the same in terms of quality.

The passengers are all there to have a fun time, and everyone is always in good spirits and are friendly.

Everyone participates in the ship events; deck parties are always packed.

Carnival cruisers all seem to love, love the comedy shows on board and people will line up for them and they will be packed every night there's one. Same with the piano bar (Similar to Schooners on Royal).

There's an adults only sundeck with hottubs called the Serenity and it's always a nice, chill place. The main pool area is always packed with people and there's always loud music going.

My hubby and I are kind of old boring people I suppose. Carnival definitely has better lunch options.

We stay on our balcony most of the time reading or checking out what is "out there" with the binoculars. At sail away we will be there sipping a cocktail or glass of wine, avoiding all the loud party noise as much as possible.

If you do get a balcony make sure you check the deck plans. On the Magic there will be a board walk on the outside of the ship on deck 5. If you are on deck 6 folks walking around are able to look right on to your balcony so if you prefer not to be on display I move up to at least deck 9.

Magic was the worst cruise out of 22. The dining room service was terrible, people lined up at guest services and people were being comped steakhouse dinners.  The cabins were dirty when we arrived. Makeup and toothpaste were visibly apparent, and we had to complain to get them cleaned properly.

Someone vomited in the hallway on the same deck our cabin was on and we walked by for three days before it was cleaned. No joke.

But -- it could have been a bad week, several managers were off that week, who knows...I sure hope they have their act together now.

As I said, it could have been a week where several area managers were off, or something else going on, I don't know.  Others have had great experiences, and I'm sure you will too - just because I had a bad experience four years ago, doesn't mean you will.  We've had several wonderful cruises on Carnival also.

Have a great cruise.

Been on the Dream twice, which is a sister ship.  It is one of my favorites.  I love everything about it.   I hope you have as much fun as my family did.   As for Latin music, you will have to  see on the ship.

Loved the Magic.  When we were on that one, they had latin music in the atrium (live music) and Ocean Plaza.  Then they played some at the serenity under the stars and in the club.  Love the layout and the ship.  A lot to do.

Hope you enjoy your cruise. Next time you can consider booking a Havana cabin, available on the Vista class ships. You would be assured of a Latin band. Booking limited to above age 12, they get exclusive access to the Havana pool and (2) whirlpools. Also have the Havana Bar with Latin music in the evenings.

The Havana area on Mardi Gras and Celebration is much smaller than the Vista class ships.

I've cruised on the Magic twice.  It was my first Carnival cruise and I loved it.  I think Royal's ships are nicer and they have much better theater shows, but I really enjoy my Carnival cruises.  They have great comedy shows, a good selection of free lunch options, movies on deck, fun parties, and a wide variety of live music throughout the ship.

To me, Magic is the perfect size Carnival ship.  I like the layout.  We didn't experience anything negative when we cruised on the Magic and had a great time.

We loved the Magic when we sailed on her right before covid shut everything down.  In fact, we were scheduled to go back on her a month later, but...

Love that class of ship.  We never had a bad experience on a CCL ship yet - 27 CCL cruises in.  We mostly relax on cruises, as we have been to most of the ports multiple times.  Love the piano bar and comedy shows.  We kinda skip the stage (Broadway type) shows now as we have seen them, but if I were a new Carnival cruiser I would go see them.  It's funny, but the one "not great" cruise was the first and only time on Royal.  Food was practically inedible in the dr. and buffet.   Shows were good, though, and I loved the free-style soda machines.  Carnival does not have those.
