We were on RC a few years ago and mentioned to our cabin steward that a kettle would be nice and apparently a $10 tip overcomes the fire hazard 🥸

Did exactly the same too 😉 Works wonders.

Didn't work with Holland America though 😭

For the poster who suggested bottled water over tap water ... maybe the water wasn't the problem?!?

UTTERLY DISGUSTING   -   ...................   AND UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!

You are not allowed to help yourself to anything in the buffet but could request them from a crew member.

Sounds as if I'll need to bring my Sainsbury Red Label tea bags with me!

The kettles are quite small btw,  enough for a couple of cups.  Actually,  the cups are kind of small too so if you like a mug,  best to bring one of those too!

Regarding kettle fires,  being from the UK we bought an electric kettle in our vacation home in the states which we rented out.  Apparently some US users did not know electric kettles were a thing 20 years ago and one one put it on the hob,  setting fire to the kettle and making a real mess on the hob.  So,  it is possible for an electric kettle to be a fire hazard given the right circumstances!

A topic of discussion on these recent threads:

You are allowed to take your own kettles for paint and fish but not the ones that heat up to make beverages. I believe you may take kettles of the drum type but banging them loudly at night might be a nuisance to other passengers in neighbouring cabins on Princess Cruises. This will get round relying on Princess cruise line providing you with their kettle.
