people win with "poor" bids every day!

it all depends on the room you have, the room you want, the availability and demand for those rooms and NCL's super secret formula that dictates how they can best maximize revenue. you did exactly the right thing, in my opinion by submitting a "poor" bid...this way, you can laugh all the way to the poor house when your bid is accepted!

Lol.  Not to worried about it with these prices.  Considering what we paid for our current HI cabin.

You never know how things will turn out. I put a low bid in for an upgrade from an inside cabin to either a porthole or balcony cabin for a transatlantic from England later in Sept. Both possibilities exceeded $300 to $600.00 total for the two of us.

Called my "guy" this morning to see what he might do in lieu of waiting for the bid process to finalize. $135.00 later was upgraded to a balcony, with all original offers staying "as is".

Anyone had experience with this:

In an inside room and have already bought a Thermal Suite pass for a cruise layer this year.

Was offered to bid on a Spa Balcony (which includes Thermal Suite access).

If I won the bid, I would hope they would refund the separate Thermal Suite pass I already bought (but I seem to recall some wording about not refundable within 3 days of sailing but I may be wrong)  since I wouldn't use the pass.

Can anyone confirm refunding of the pass if a Spa Balcony is won via bidding?  Thanks.

Has anyone gotten an email from Norwegian saying they are reviewing your upgrade request? I bid for an upgrade a couple weeks ago when the price was discounted. I know it's a long shot at the poor end for a 2 bedroom family suite. Even though it says pending and we depart in 2 days, I have pretty much realized I wouldn't get it. I've read others have already gotten upgrades on other cabins.

Just tonight, I got an email from Norwegian saying they are confirming they received my upgrade request and they are reviewing my upgrade request and I can still cancel and I can be awarded the upgrade anytime up to 0 hours prior to boarding.

Just wondering if this means my odds are better then I thought? At least it's not a denied yet.

What were you going from?  Since I’m new to NCL If I saw $400 for a suite going & it was going from a studio I would jump on it to at least experience a suite just once.

Thanks for your post.

If one opens up due to cancellations, then you're in the running for it.    Starting tomorrow will be the covid cancellations so you never know.

That’s right with the cruise I’m on you have to have a negative covid test. Personally I hope nobody has to cancel their cruise this close because of that.

I just saw on YouTube where they say if your in a solo stateroom you’re not eligible for the upgrade program. Anyone know if this is true?

Here’s the video that I found.

5 Night Mexico cruise, Dec 18th-23rd.  I was fortunate to purchase when it was at it's cheapest (per graph below).   Moved from a regular Suite (SC) to Haven Penthouse Suite w/balcony (HI) on Desk 15.  Wouldn't mind moving again, as I am a bit worried about the deck noise right above our heads.

Still tracking rooms for our December Joy sailing.  Asked our PCC what is up with the uber jumps in prices, he guessed 1.  NCL wants money and 2. Prepping for the bidding to start.

Hi Tom - not true.  I am solo and had my offer accepted.  Moved from Studio to Balcony.  The Upgrade Fairy was good to me.

It used to be that if you were in a studio you could not upgrade.  They changed that around six months ago.

congrats on your upgrade!

Not really a 'bidding' story, but one time (not at band camp 😉 ), my friend and I had booked adjoining studios...and three days before sailing, ncl dropped the single supplement and the price of cabins...we each got a balcony cabin (not adjoining) for $50 each... I even got an aft balcony!!  Albeit, the price per person for those studio cabins is pretty steep for what they are....

Booked thru CAS (Casinos at Sea).

good to hear that this is possible and does happen.  I wasn't sure if they would extend deals to the CAS bookings.  I'm booked thru CAS for a cruise next month (comped), and I called yesterday (spoke with CAS rep) to see about upgrading from my inside to a balcony.  I was quoted a little over $500 and declined.  I'll put in a low ($100/$200 total) bid and see what happens.  The minimum bid is $75.  Did you call the regular customer service line, or did you call CAS?  Also, was your inside comped, or just discounted?

I used the NCL app under “Room Upgrades” where you could put your name & booking number & got the following message…”We are sorry, we have no space available.”  Perhaps I was too early plus others have said that you need to be contacted first my NCL to be able to make a bid.

How much did you have to bid?  I’m new to NCL so was just wondering.

You do not HAVE TO bid anything.  If you choose to bid the minimum amount (usually) is determined by the cabin type you are currently in and the cabin type you are bidding on.  On my cruise the minimum bid was anywhere from $25 - $1500 per person for the first two people.

First if you are more than 110

days out it’s way way to early, second did you book direct or thru a Travel agent a lot don’t participate, not everyone gets the option for upgrade advantage

Thanks.  I booked through a TA. I’ll check with them.

We got our upgrade bid offers about 2 weeks ago... as of today, we are 86 days out...

I just did a quick inventory of available Haven suites...there appears to be 48 available Haven cabins...(which is funny because if you do a google search, it says that the Getaway only has 42 suites)... we have bids on all but the 2bdrm and Deluxe OS...

I really thought that once they opened the doors for everyone, that these rooms would book up...

Anyway,..I'll be keeping an eye on the inventory... fingers crossed!! (I would really love an aft suite)

I looked myself after reading your post because I couldn't believe that a cruise right after Thanksgiving weekend has no Havens booked.

And you are correct.

(fingers crossed that it stays that way) 🙂

I have a family member that was an avid cruiser and is anti-vax...when the cruise lines opened up to 'vaxxed only' she swore off cruising forever... I wonder if there is alot of people in that same boat 🤪(pun intended)

If I purchase an inside cabin on a cruise that will leave in a month, is it possible for me to get an upgrade email, or is it too late?  I don't think the ship is selling well, as the prices have gone done.

Yes but only if you booked direct with ncl or with a ta that participates because a lot of the big box TA’s do not remember just because you get the offer up to 110 days out 95 percent or more are not upgraded until 2 to 5 days before sailing. good luck!
