2 day covid test

I would appreciate any information regarding the 2 day test requirement.  We are fully vaccinated arriving from the US staying in England less than 24 hours.  Where do we get the test or at least a number to put on the locator form? How much does it cost and does anyone know of a reputable source? Would greatly appreciate any info. Thank you.

some major airports offer rapid testing.   I don't know the charge.

I thought the cruises out of Southampton were covered by testing at the port.

No, you still have to do a day 2 test, regardless of the Southampton test.

But, as the OP is in the UK for less than 24 hours,  by entering "in transit" on the PLF document,  no Day 2 test will be required.

These are the rules as I understand them:

A day 2 test does not need to be booked if you are travelling directly from your arrival airport to the port for embarkation (less than 24hrs). You say "in transit" on the PLF.

However, if you are in the UK more than 24 hrs prior to the cruise departure then you must book and pay for a day 2 test... you are then not in transit and you put your test booking reference on the PLF. Should the ship sail as expected you will not need to actually take the test even though you paid for it. If it turns out you are still in the UK on day 2 (arrival day is day 0) then you must take the test.

I think this is grossly unfair but that is the requirement as it stands as I understand it.

The same rules apply for when you return to the UK after the cruise... Submit a PLF 48hrs prior to sailing... if in transit (less than 24hrs and direct travel to airport) then no day 2 test required... if in UK more than 24hrs between arriving back on the cruise and your flight home then book and pay for a day 2 test but only take the test if still in the UK on day 2 (arrival in country is day 0).
