Able Mariner

As I was going through years of paperwork, I found a certificate for Able Mariner.  It was issued on our third cruise.  In part it reads as follows:Having served the proper apprenticeship scrubbing scrappers and polishing monkey rails aforementioned landlubber is henceforth promoted to the rank of Able Mariner.  It was dated June, 1999 on the Ryndam

I remember this era. Such a different company than today.

Sounds like a nice little remainder of your cruise. Don't ever remember seeing anything like it on any of our cruises.

That was so long ago as Mariner Society calculations go. It was the time when medallions started at silver, and getting to them was measured in miles. 
I remember those days fondly.

I was once recognized as an Able Mariner.  Somewhere in my archives of photos is a picture of the Hotel Manager (not Director as the person is now known) presenting me with that certificate.
