Rare mdunne48 Posted January 11, 2022 #26 Share Posted January 11, 2022 The CDC's Conditional Sail Order expires this Friday, January 15th. According to the CDC it will not be extended. Cruise ship operators will be free to set their own standards for health & safety for their ships. When this occurs, maybe cruise lines will be brought into alignment with international air travel requiring a negative COVID-19 test prior to disembarkation if the ship has been to international destinations. "The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reaffirmed to Cruise Critic on Wednesday that its long-standing Conditional Sail Order will transition to a voluntary program January 15." Rare mdunne48 Posted January 11, 2022 #28 Share Posted January 11, 2022 I did not say that the negative COVID test affirmation was an airline requirement only that is presently a requirement for international travel.

Presumably cruise lines will still have to abide by the local port regulations in regards to testing and/or vaccination status prior to allowing guests to disembark for any purpose. More importantly, does that mean that cruise lines will be free to set their own rules and protocols for guests testing positive on board, e.g. whether to quarantine "positive" guests on board and length of quarantine period, etc.? Bingo! That is the most important question for us (leaving 1/19 on Explorer). Not worried about getting really sick (triple vaxed ) but anxious beyond words about being quarantined for 10 days. What I fret would be the quarantining at the end of the cruise in Miami or Timbuktu or wherever it ends.

So who do you think will bring them into “alignment “ with airline travel requirements? The government? The cruise lines themselves? Doubtful it would be the latter, there’s nothing in it for them

The all requirements come from the country the plane is going to so not a blanket requirement for international travel.

If on our Splendor cruise mid March, should one of us test positive, we would be shifted to one from our Grand Suite. Would not be too happy about that. 1

I would argue that you need to do social distancing and what better way to do this than in the GS. 🙂

That's the exact reason we cancelled our Splendor cruise leaving tomorrow. Reality can bite, but future cruises are on the horizon!!
