Holidayfun141 Posted January 22, 2022 #35 Share Posted January 22, 2022 Thank you Linda, so interesting, we were on Spirit of Discovery in 2021 and you’ve brought all the lovely memories back. We are booked on 2 Saga cruises this year, both on Spirit of Adventure in May and September. Everything look so nice.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted January 22, 2022 Author #36 Share Posted January 22, 2022 Strawberry afternoon tea. Our cabin is almost midship. There's a door at the bottom of the corridor. On investigation there's an open deck with a fabulous aft view!
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted January 22, 2022 Author #37 Share Posted January 22, 2022 (edited) Sent bridge cam image to my eldest grandson who is now on WhatsApp. Love that he showed an interest. A virgin colada 🍹 We dined in the Grill, and whilst it's informal during the day it's table service in the evening. Less noisy for sure. Same menu as main dining room. Pic of raspberry cranachan! Currently listening to a duo in the Living Room. Mellow female voice with guitar accompaniment. Lovely. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted January 22, 2022 Author #38 Share Posted January 22, 2022 Talks..... We've been to one on cyber security. There's been port talks which we can watch in our cabin. There's been a talk on Tommy Cooper and another on Norman Wisdom. Once visiting craft / painting and other personal teachers are out of isolation they will start classes. During the day there's all kinds of offerings from the spa. Deck games. Meet the chaplain. No books in the library sadly for health reasons. No board games available. My friend has brought his scrabble set with. Daily news sheet, quiz, crossword, sudoku from reception. Music in various venues at different times. Trivia quizzes. A very full daily list of activities. Thanks for following. 1

I do think that with our current understanding of how Covid is transmitted, removing books from the library is pure nincompoopery. How many people in the world have contracted Covid from a library book ?

On Iona the library was open and stocked - sanitizers at hand.

Wacktle Posted January 23, 2022 #48 Share Posted January 23, 2022 Thanks for all the info and photos. I was particularly interested in the wine menu. With 10 nights on SoD and 5 on SoFA, we have never seen or been offered one! We don't eat in the MDR, so maybe they think Grill diners don't enjoy wine? I have also noticed that dinner menus in The Grill don't offer cheeses. Why? As a fussy veggie, I found the menu in October very limiting and would have loved a cheese plate. Can anyone help on this? Vivaldi Posted January 23, 2022 #49 Share Posted January 23, 2022 2 hours ago, Wacktle said: As a fussy veggie, I found the menu in October very limiting On previous Saga cruises I've noticed that some vegetarians have been given a large menu the day before, and can choose what they want for dinner the next day. I presume that they have notified Saga in advance of their dietary requirements. It would give you more choice, with the disadvantage that you'd need to know one day what you would like to eat the following day. As for the wine menu, I've been on several Saga cruises and have never been offered it - you have to ask for it. At least one can say that they are not pushing guests to buy wines. Terrific blog, NorbertsNiece, and it has re-awakened my enthusiasm for cruising. Many thanks!
Wacktle Posted January 23, 2022 #50 Share Posted January 23, 2022 (edited) Thank you Vivaldi. I did register as a veggie on SoD in 2019 but found so much choice in the evening buffet that I asked Reception to stop sending me the menus. However all that's changed. No buffet in the evening, so a limited choice. I never ordered from the veggie menu in 2019 because I was at a loss to know how and when the meal would find me. It's something I need to ask Saga for our next cruise. Re the wine menu, that's interesting. In 2019 cruise I went to a wine tasting towards the end of the cruise and the highly qualified chap said what bargains some of the paid-for wines are. Another thing to investigate 🍷. Sorry for interrupting the blog, which is wonderful ☺. Edited January 23, 2022 by Wacktle Typo
