What percentage before we turn red status?

Good question. How many passengers are on the Connie right now?

Red Ship Criteria

  • For a ship to be considered at Red status, the ship has:
    • sustained transmission of COVID-19 or CLI, or
    • potential for COVID-19 cases to overwhelm on board medical center resources.
  • In addition, CDC will work closely with the cruise line and consider multiple factors before assigning a “Red” status to the ship. These factors may include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Percent of passengers and crew on board who are fully vaccinated.
    • Variants of concern are identified among cases on board.
    • Epidemiologic data from EDC reporting (e.g., symptomatic persons on board requiring medical care)
    • Epidemiologic links between cases.
    • Number of hospital beds, ventilators, oxygen, and other medical supplies on board relative to the number of cases on board.
    • Ship has not replied to CDC’s request for information within 48 hours.
    • During the past 7 days, the ship missed one or more daily submissions of the EDC form. On a weekly basis, CDC emails all ships a reminder to submit the EDC form. In addition, CDC sends a reminder email if a ship does not submit their EDC form.

If we were on the Connie, as we were back in December for 21 days, we would just continue to avoid sitting around anyone, whether it’s in the dining room, in the theater or up in Reflections. In the theater we sat on the side up on the second level on deck 5. Great view of the stage I might add. In the Reflections Lounge we would sit in the area to either the left or right of the bar with no one sitting behind us, but great views of the stage. But it helps to be naturally antisocial. 😎

Everything seems to be voluntary now without any firm requirements.  I doubt Celebrity will ever classify the ship as Red.

I may be wrong but I believe the ships still need to report cases and the CDC still retains authority to classify a ship as red and require it to cancel and return to port.

I would think it might be plausible if a bunch of folks were seriously ill. But if most just have cold-like symptoms or are asymptomatic, I’m thinking not, especially if that have an adequate quarantine area and associated services.

Celebrity can't classify its ships, even if they wanted to. That is done by the CDC based on the information submitted by the cruise line. And while it is now voluntary it would not be in the cruiselines best interests to refuse to submit or falsify data. If that was found out, the cruiseline would be destroyed in the court of popular opinion.

I guess I'm mostly concerned because we have so many days to go

I know. But in all reality, all you could is protect yourself and those you are cruising with. Just like you’ve been doing for the past 2 years. But I sure the heck wouldn’t be going on any more excursions or hanging out at the Martini Bar. But, when in port, you can always  just walk around the pier just to get off the ship.

Believe it or not the Martini bar is usually empty! And can't do your own thing in Panama but we plan to stay onboard anyway.  Thank goodness we got a large hump balcony.

I'm one of the lucky 3% on Connie. Tested positive yesterday morning and escorted to the red zone on deck 7 forward by employee in Ghostbusters suit.  My wife tested negative 24 hrs later and is free to move about the ship. My symptoms are mild, basically like a cold. The most surprising thing on this trip is the acceleration rate. 1% on Thurs,  2% yesterday and 3% today. Hopefully we level off here and the other 97% enjoy yesterday rest of the trip. The crew has been great and I feel well cared for. When I feel better I'm going to start challenging them with drink orders!

Sorry to hear you got infected and hope you get better soon. Any idea how you might have caught it?

no....now you know there are numerous factors to be considered beyond the number of positive tests. what is unknown are the data points associated with the other factors.

It is not possible, therefore, for any passenger or anyone here to speculate.

If I understand things, there will be an FCC for every day in quarantine.  Can you confirm if everyone in the cabin gets an FCC or only you?

True. I would nevertheless like to know what other ships have encountered as respects onboard percentages.

I hope you are feeling better soon and your wife continues to test negative! May I ask why you were tested?
