Single supplement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We are booked on Wonder in june and a friend would like to join us for what would be his first cruise.

He is single and when I try to book a single room the pricing is more than what you would pay if you booked 2 passengers.

So, is it allowed to just book his cruise for 2 passengers and then have one of them not show up (because they don't exist) ? That would save 500USD of the cruisefare.

Are there any other 'tricks' to get a better fare for a single traveller?

Yes, and when the other passenger does not show, the second set of taxes&port fees will be refunded.  Plus, if the friend does think of somebody who he’d like to bring, the fictional name can easily be changed to a real one.

I understand this to be because as a solo you can't book the guarantee category which is usually the lowest fare.  I was booked with a friend who had to cancel the last minute and he did get his taxes/port fees refunded.

That is not always true.  Solo cruisers can sometimes book the guarantee rate.  It's not a "flat" prohibition.

I have been able to book the guarantee rate as a single. My travel agent called and talked to someone with more authority than the booking engine who was able to override the block. A knowledgable and savvy travel agent often can work wonders. (if you  can find one)

I agree.  Just try calling RCL customer service and see if they can just book the guarantee price for 1 person.

OP are you looking at studio cabin vs. regular cabin? Sometimes the studio cabin is more expensive than a regular cabin, probably because there are fewer. However, I've always been able to book a regular cabin - bonus is you get double points that way - as a solo without issue. Try giving RCL a call, they may be able to help further than the website.
