NY Times article on Red Hook, the Brooklyn neighborhood where the QM2 docks

I share the fondness for Red Hook.  A stroll down Van Brunt St. is a pleasure, and there are some lovely spots on the water at the base of the street.  But it is a neighborhood that is isolated from the rest of Brooklyn by the expressway that bisects it and that leads to the Brooklyn-Battery Park Tunnel.  Not really served by the subway.  And it was battered by Super Storm Sandy.  So a bit charming, a bit grungy, and quite remote.  If you are on the QM2 with time to kill, take a stroll on Van Brunt, have a beer or lunch, peek into a couple of the shops.

on a land-based holiday on 2019 we went to Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Absolutely beautiful. The magnolias were in full bloom and their scent was wonderful. Would definitely spend more time there in future.

Also a very popular spot during cherry blossom season, and next door is the Brooklyn Museum with its noteworthy Egyptian collection.

Being a member of the BBG we look forward to each season of the garden. We hope the garden will open more this year over last year. Having to make reservations since they only wanted to limit the number of the visitors entrance. And the restaurants in the gardens had to dine outside.

The Cherry Blossoms were outstanding especially along the Esplanade. Everyone enjoyed the outdoors.

Though a great distance to see them from the Brooklyn Terminal, a nice place to visit if a passenger stayed at a hotel several days before or after.
