Britboys Posted March 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2022 I was just having a meander through the Southampton VTS site Cruise Ship Schedule, which is currently populated up the end of July (I was wondering if my Aurora cruise was on it yet but it isn't). I noticed there are quite a few occasions when 4 ships are in port but on 30th July, each of the five terminals has a large ship alongside. This means, if all ships are sailing pretty much full by then (who knows 🤔🤞🏻), there could be up to about 19.5 thousand pax disembarking and another 19.5 thousand pax embarking. It's likely to be a pretty busy city so plan well ahead folks.

I didn't realise that the new terminal (Horizon) is now operational.

Yes, MSC Virtuosa used it last year during the Round UK cruises. It's difficult to get too excited about what is essentially a big shed, but everything was new and shiny (I only disembarked there) and the air bridge isn't temperamental like the one at Mayflower can be. Never had a problem with the airbridge at the Mayflower I must say. I have however with the one at the Ocean Terminal, which of course is another big tin shed... Yes, as big tin sheds go, it's quite nice inside. I will be road testing it again (in both directions) in a couple of month's time (hopefully, because going on a cruise still isn't an exact science)

And I hope the sound system/acoustics are better. I can never understand a word over the tannoy in Ocean Terminal.

It's QEII I dislike. Too narrow and old fashioned, especially for a ship like Queen Mary 2. Also seems to attract a lot of crazed seagulls.
