OCVTSGIRL Posted March 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 23, 2022 In August a group of us will be sailing on the Oasis. Is it possible to text each other on board without purchasing VOOM? None of us need to use it but since there are 10 of us in 5 different rooms it would be nice to be able to text to set up places to meet.
brookmill18 Posted March 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2022 We were not able to do this on Anthem 2 weeks ago. It was our first post-covid cruise and were surprised because up until our last cruise in summer of 2019, we were able to iMessage while using ship wifi. We had purchased Voom for one device and if we wanted to text each other, we'd text, then sign off hoping the other would log on and see!
flamingos Posted March 24, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2022 You can text people on board via the Royal App, for $1.99 a day.

Don't count on the Royal App text capability. Each person is charged $1.99 a day and it wasn't reliable. We missed a lot of messages and it was more frustating than useful for us.

Ours worked, but you have to have the app open and it doesn't send an alert, so yeah - you have to look at it a lot. Hopefully they are working on the functionality. 🙂
J0Y0US Posted March 24, 2022 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2022 Royal wants their cash but they should simply provide free iMessage, Whatsapp, and Facebook Messenger. Disney I think offers iMessage and Whatsapp for free and so do some airlines. Heck I bet they could even work with Apple or Facebook to get them to pay to allow because they want people to download and use their apps.
