Just curious. We are going to be in St Kitts in November. Only ship in port will be Grandeur of the Seas. This ship is small by today's standards and attracts an older crowd. Is it just the cruise passengers that make some of the things I am reading here rowdy? I know our ship will be really genteel.

There are also condo/house vacationers on St K, plus Towels from the ship.

If one is seeking truly a genteel ambiance, then Marriott.  T’erds never arrive, if the did, ejected.

I'll be doing a solo cruise on NCL Epic in April and am interesting in going there...however, solo female traveler. Any safety concerns there? I really like the idea of a quiet beach with a bar/restaurant.

No safety concerns at all.  No sketchy wandering people on the beach, either.  I’d go as a solo female, no question.

Going to St Kitts in July.  How much was the taxi ride?  DId they charge per person?

Taxi was cheap - maybe $20?  And no, didn’t charge per person.  It was me and my husband in a minivan, and we arranged for him to return for us.  He didn’t even want to be paid when he dropped us off - we paid him on the way back

Social media discovered/destroyed Carambola.  Herds arrived, discerning locals and genteel cruisers abandoned it as a drinks/lunch/day meet-up destination. Takings fell, and it resorted day passes without beds for Towels.

Happily, Sunshines and Marriott are still unaffected by T’erds and Morse ensures Towels are verbally driven away (some distance) to ensure his paying guests views are not spoiled.

What are T’erds?

What are T’erds?

T'erds is a word constructed by my Bajan friends, being a combination of two words

Towels and Herds.  The T from Towels and 'erds from Herds to describe some tourists.

TOWELS:

Arrive by the cheapest means; deliberately take the most annoying spot on the beach to spoil a view of paying clients on beds/loungers; spread the ship's Towels to reserve their space; constantly repeat the mantra "beaches are free" like a demented parrot; do not spend anything at the resort; bring food and drink browsed from the ship's buffet, all wrapped in a ship's napkin; bury their picnic debris in the sand; use the sea, beach and all the venue's facilities for free; if there is charge for toilets, decline and use the sea; return to the ship by the cheapest means.

Then when back in the Ship boast they spent the day at Carambola (Kim Sha et al) taking lunch and drinks there.

HERDS:

Arrive loudly en masse; stay loudly; have shouting conversations on their mobiles, or with other herd members, albeit 2 feet or 20 yards way; bring coolers full of Supermarket bought beer and food, then demand ice for free; bring boom boxes and play on highest volume; sometimes pay for beds but insist a colony of friends is created; complain about the price of venue's food as the reason for buying a single slice of pizza.

Seek to use Hotel or Beach facilities for free, failing that, turn the sea into a Urinal (aka going for a swim)

Abuse or ridicule other guests, and members of the venue's staff, solely for the group's amusement.

Basically, it's a group who knowingly do everything possible to spoil the genteel ambience of the venue, and to annoy as many people as it is physically possible.

Then leave loudly en masse.

Other items of annoyance can be added to each of the above definitions as required.

And the management and guests killed the reef in front of Carambola. The last time we went there I cried when I saw the destruction on that reef. Everything was dead. There were a couple cuddle fish following me and begging for food. Normally they are very shy. Please take care and respect the reefs. The others we have been to since are still in good shape.

It’s true, T’erds not only destroy the ambiance, but also the island’s beauty.  And are so cerebrally challenged that they fail to understand it’s “them” that are not wanted anywhere near something decent.
One T’erd posted some time ago that the sighting of many Scorpion Fish at Carambola was a highlight of a snorkel and evidence of a living reef with plenty of fish.
We both rest our case…..

No concerns…. The security for all guests is top notch….  It’s a place where one will want to return.

A long way away from T’erds.    Think genteel English country club with an American twist.

Just found T'erds def above.  🥴
