MickD Posted May 11, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Just wondered if anybody can shed a light on this email ? Going on a short 2 nighter on the Anthem on Friday and just received this email from Royal. states that at start of cruise planning I had $25, and now have $20.24 available. I didn’t have any obc nor did I purchase anything online, just wondering where the $25 has come from and more importantly how have I spent $4.76 lol 😂
cublet Posted May 11, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Hello, What's even more of a mystery is that there's something from Royal costing as little as $4.76! Regards, Cublet

MickD Posted May 11, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Good call !! That would be about right, although can’t understand why they would be converting my account now though, I normally get the final account in dollars and I have my bank convert it and not Royal. Had obc many times before and have never had it converted before the cruise starts 🤷♂️

gumshoe958 Posted May 11, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Yes, it’s an exchange rate thing. For some reason Royal IT gets confused when it comes to converting $ into £, but if you look at today’s forex rate, $25 equals £20.24. As to where it came from, did you book through a TA who offered promotional OBC?

No booked direct No obc at time of booking, have never had obc converted into £ before the cruise starts, why would they convert before the cruise starts when all onboard charges are in $. makes no sense at all. Ocean Boy Posted May 11, 2022 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Just hope that today you don't get an email saying you own RCI $20.24 or your reservation will be cancelled.
cublet Posted May 11, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 11, 2022 (edited) Hello, I thought once you booked, the exchange rate for all your transactions apart from end-of-cruise on-board account payment was fixed at the booking rate. Even this side of the pond OBCs are in $ to start with but when it comes to the cruise planner it states (in UK's case) a GB£ OBC and purchasable items in GB£ too. I think what has happened is a $ amount has been translated into £ and back to $ for the app. My small OBC for May and humongous OBC on Celebrity for June have been showing the same amounts for about a month. SullytheBFG Posted May 11, 2022 #12 Share Posted May 11, 2022 I did a 4 night cruise to nowhere from Southampton last July, I had $423.84 OBC. Absolutely no idea why, went down to guest services and asked they said it was correct only thing was couldn’t be used in the casino and needed to be spent before the end of the cruise. already had dining and drinks so I went and spent it on cologne etc including a lovely Tom Ford one that I would never normally buy, free money! Who knows with RC.
cublet Posted May 11, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Hello, I'm prepared to put good money, ie $4.76, that the OP will have $25.00 OBC when he/she arrives on board. Regards, Cublet
