Don't we still have to sign for the food and add the tip on the bill?

No, I don’t think you will have a paper bill to sign. If you want to give a tip you should probably have cash on hand.

I tend to think that with the advent of the medallion service system, room service isn't really room service at all.  Delivery to your room is really no different than if you ordered a drink while jogging on a treadmill or sitting in the the Piazza.  Your stateroom is just another location that is a viable delivery option through the medallion system.  I don't think that the introduction of this RFID locater system was intended to have us peeling more $5 bills out of our pockets than before.  So for common orders such as drinks or a light snack, I would treat the delivery to my room no differently than I would treat delivery to me out by the pool.  For a full blown room service meal, I would consider that a bit different and tip as I had in the past.

Why no coins if anyone is tipping in £s or €s the lowest note is a 5 and £5 is more than $5 so can add up if you use room service a lot ( we don’t but just interested)

Good point, but what I meant is that the purser's desk does not give out US coins.  The cashier at the casino will.  And yes, I have left coins from other countries as part of my tips since they will be useless to me.  My posts are generally referencing those who live in the United States.

I found that a Toonie fits exactly inside the back of a Medallion and it sticks to the magnet there. I wondered why my Medallion was suddenly not working very well. My wife took a look at it and started laughing. D'Oh!  I had that happen a couple of times and both times gave the offending coin to a bartender. I rarely carry coins at home. In the winter I do stick change in my jacket pocket - I found several dollars worth there when I put the jacket on last year - but normally my coins all go into the console of the truck or the car.

It shouldn't have made any difference. My husband mad a medallion holder from sheet metal and it works perfectly well.

Possible a weak battery could have caused it.

Have you found that you get better service by tipping with cash?

Service is always good but sometimes we see the same server each morning.
