What happens if I have to cancel/re-book?

I want to go ahead and book next years cruise. Now, I suspect my daughter will be engaged by the end of the year and they are talking about getting married next June. She is a teacher so she is limited to dates for a wedding. Anyway, I like to cruise in September but not sure I will be able to afford to go after paying for a wedding. So, if I book and end up having to re-schedule what happens? I'm sure I will loosed my non-refundable deposit. I won't cancel all together I'm just re-schedule.

I cancelled one a few months back to book another week.  In the end, I lost $100 ($50 per person).  I received a letter stating that the remainder of the deposit ($150) would be held as a future cruise credit.  I called and had it applied to another cruise.

It really depends on the terms of the offer under which you book.  If you book an Early Saver fare, normally you would only lose $50 pp and the remainder would become a FCC.  Other fares have non-refundable deposits, which you would lose.

You may have a problem if you cancel. What you want to do is just move it to a different date. They have been pretty lenient with that since the restart. I did it for Alaska and it didn't cost me anything. Pre-covid they charged me $50/pp to change a cruise. Cancellation I wouldn't do if you know you're going to re-book. Just move your cruise.

 

If you think you may cancel maybe wait until they do a $50 deposit sale that way if you do something to lose your deposit it's only $50.

Yeah, I would just move the date. I'll certainly need a vacation after dealing with what I'm sure will be a bridezilla!

I’ve done this a few times or just changed my mind of itinerary. It’s a $200 administrative fee to change your cruise to a different time/ship etc. it’s super easy to do just call them and give them your booking number and tell them the cruise you want to be switched to. Totally not necessary to cancel!

The best option for your peace of mind is to book a refundable deposit. Yes, that still exists.

It's full deposit (low deposit is always non-refundable) but at least you can make changes or cancel without any penalties.

Unless you find a really good deal I'd not book now until you are sure of the dates. Carnival typically pre covid had good prices closer in. I found better prices by waiting. 

 

I know you want to plan but I'd wait until you know for sure the dates. Would have to be a heck of a deal to book early for me. .. and those deals seem to have dried up. Wait to book.

I had to rebooked a casino offered cruise last week due to schedule conflict. Original offer was no longer available, but they transferred non-refundable deposit as well as drink and internet packages to new cruise.  Only getting charged around $5 difference when done.  Guessing it all depends on offer and a little bit of luck.  I had purchased Cheers and internet packages before price bump, so I was pleasantly surprised!
