Adult Only

Perhaps they should have thought about that before having children. The decision to have children—when it is a decision at all, rather than a mere failure to go to the drugstore—entails responsibilities that, yes, may limit what one can do. I'm tired of hearing people complain about the difficulty of indulging in night life when they have a three-month-old baby.

People who can't or won't leave their children behind may simply not be able to attend venues that aren't suitable for children. Wine-tasting events and performances of music are good examples. Children taken to these events are very likely to be bored stiff, and consequently to misbehave. That's not good for the children or for the other adults present. The only one who benefits is the thoughtless, selfish so-called parent who inserted the children into a place where they did not belong.

Unfortunately, many people who have children also have a sense of entitlement the size of Jupiter.

WOW!! Do you judge much?

Galveston is probably going to be limited, in practice, to cruises in the Caribbean, which are likely to have a lot of children. A lot of cruises out of Florida would be similar.

I should have mentioned that we only do "Closed Loop" cruises out of FL or TX, except once out of Seattle (never again) and once out of Cape Liberty.

Next cruise out of Galveston unless we find something sooner at a great deal.  Can't wait.

Royal is a good cruise line, but why are you loyal? If it's perks becauce of status, I'd suggest you step back and look at the bigger picture. If price were not an object, what experience is most important to you? Try to expand your vision before settling. Remember that your Royal status never goes away. Life is short.

For me, the experience most important to me is to be on a cruise ship and no cares at all.  The perks on RCCL are just icing on the cake.  Price is, for most people, a factor in choosing a cruise line and itinerary.  So if I can get 4 or 5 included drinks per day, which is all I would drink anyway, that is just another $300 I can use on either the next cruise.

Have you considered Celebrity?  Your C & A status transfers

It transfers but the perks ore not completely compatible.  Diamond, at 80 points on RCCL, gets a person 4 drinks at any bar on the ship.  Celebrity doesn't have a perk at all that allows for complimentary drinks on there plan at all.  RCCL is much better than any of the lines, in my opinion, of all the lines.

Being a mother, I can think of a ton of reasons. The first being they couldn't find someone they trusted to watch them.

And that is all fine and good.  But too many parents "drag" their kids along and turn them loose on the rest of the passengers.  Especially 7-8-9-10-11 and young teens.  Parents that, at home wouldn't let their kid even play in the front yard for fear of something bad happening, turn those same kids loose to do what they want on a cruise ship.  And as long as the kid isn't bothering the parents, the parents are all happy.

Isn't a requirement for HAL to be at least 60? 😄😄

well put @pdmlynek.

We did HAL recently for the first time and I can confirm that...

we were feeling like underage couple among rest of the crowd. one day we were feeling little romantic in private hydro spa area, but were worried that other might get heart attack - lol.

«X-friendly» has become an excuse for papering over irresponsibility. When I complained that a dog in an adjacent room was barking incessantly, the response from the front desk was «We are a pet-friendly hotel». I suggested that they become a guest-friendly hotel, and I got a refund and left.

The same excuse about being «family-friendly» might be thrown at you if you complained about noisy brats.

That said, I can see why your favourite cruise line would not offer adults-only cruises: people would be annoyed when they tried to book one only to find out that they weren't allowed to bring children.

A better way to achieve your purpose is to choose cruises that are unlikely to have many children: those of relatively long duration, those that take place when school is in session, those that go to more exotic destinations (rather than beaches lined with souvenir stands), those that are relatively expensive, those that require travel (usually because they end at a place far from the starting point—this may mean travel by air, which adds to the cost), those that don't offer much of interest to children, those with an older clientele. Although this approach is not guaranteed to work, in practice it typically will, especially if you combine several of the child-deterring factors. For example, I am leaving in May for five weeks in Iceland and Norway, and all of those child-deterring factors obtain. I may be unpleasantly surprised, but I am not expecting more than a handful of children.

@shorne, I hope those handful are not in rooms next door to you...

That's funny. The last HAL cruise I went on was crowded with 20 somethings. Almost to the point of irritating.

It has been a while since I cruised with HAL, I dont remember it being skewed that much older, maybe it depends on the itinerary ? Beautiful ships and service, though.  :)

I just remember it being a smattering of all ages definitely more in their 30's 40's at least on my cruises

That was our first and last HAL.... never ever... service, entertainment, and everything was below acceptable level. cruise director pointed out that endless cost cutting measures... to the point, director walked off ship alongside us to go for something better.

once again, happiness and satisfaction are perception different for everyone.

I'm wanting to book an Adult only Cruise that caters to like swingers and sexual fantasies... but i have found little on those kind of Cruises... anyone happen to have a cruise or two in mind that my fiance and i will really enjoy to experience and dive into exploring our fantasies...???

Look at Desire Resorts Cruises - they buy out the entire ship on Azamara for this type of cruise. We're going next May.

I know it’s been said already but… Viking is adults only and enjoyed last years cruise from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires very much. No kids, no casino, lots of space to breathe on the ship, beautiful areas for viewing, great service. Never felt crowded At 920 passengers.

I know that for some it would seem to sedate. Not the sort of line to look for a water slide or roller coaster. But lack of those distractions was a feature not a negative for me.

After over 10 years of cruising, I think my wife and I have settled on Viking for 'adults only' cruises.  Their adverts sum up the line's approach nicely, and we've found their approach cuts out the noise, focuses on features relevant to adults and covers a bunch of the expen$es that can double the co$t of cruising on other lines.  At least one shore excursion included in every port, beer and house wine are included with meals, no formal nights (so there's less packing to do), and a crew that could not be more attentive (not in your face with a drink tray wanting to take your order).  Amenities are geared towards adults, and so are the lectures, shore excursions and cabin arrangements.

Totally agree with you on Viking.  We love Viking and one of the main attractions is no children.

We are often the youngest couple on a Viking cruise - Ocean and/or River.  My husband certainly can be the absolute youngest who is younger than me at a mere 44 years old.

We are into the sedate and there for the culture of the destination, the food, and the more luxury service that Viking offers.

Viking average age although visibly getting a bit younger all the time, is comfortably in the high 60's to mid 70's.  Still a very agile group, but up there in age.

Viking is a great option if you just want to relax when you are on the ship and not hear kids running and screaming at the pool.

Oh, and the 4:00pm Tea on Viking Ocean is amazing!  (That is our speed for fun and excitement)

I am a solo cruiser.  I have no children.  My "children" are three Grand-Nephews and Nieces who live in Maryland and Alaska.  How often am I able to celebrate this joyous season with them?  I have good memories of Christmas cruises with children enjoying the season.  To my pleasant surprise, even the Prinsendam had several children.  Their presence helped make that cruise even more special to me.

I respect your desire to avoid these young members of our species.  Please, remember, however, it will be these young members who will become contributing members of our society and whose financial contributions, by the way of taxes--and maybe philanthropic support of a variety organizations--may indirectly assist you as you become more senior and, perhaps, less healthy.

There are plenty of cruises which allow children; many even cater to them.  For those who prefer an adults-only ship, there are markedly fewer choices.  Personally, I agree with those who prefer NOT having a bunch of children onboard.  I have raised my children, and I thoroughly enjoy spending time with my Grandchildren when it suits me.  However, I am not enthralled by other people's kids and have zero interest in spending my holiday/vacation time with them.  Truthfully, I'd rather be hit in the face with a stick than look at photos of your grandchildren!

My 2 adult sons and I have a Pub/Restaurant business in a mid-sized city.  We'll have been open 21 years in March and have never allowed under 21's, even though we could if we elected to do so.  Yes, there are people who complain and sometimes leave bad reviews online simply because of this policy.  However, our loyal clientele love the fact that we are adults-only and have repeatedly expressed that to us.  There are dozens of other places in town where families can go.  We are the only nicer restaurant where a Teacher can come in for dinner and a few drinks without running into one of their students!

So, for you who are somehow offended by those of us that prefer NOT to spend our leisure time around children, understand it isn't because we hate kids or families-  We've simply paid our dues and prefer the company of like-minded adults....And Dogs!  we like dogs!
