Queen of the Queens Posted August 1, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2022 Hi, we have just 'pushed the boat out!' and booked a 108-night Cunard world cruise. However, I am hearing that it is difficult (impossible!) to find an insurer that will offer cancellation cover of more than £5,000 which is a lot less than we are paying. I think this even includes Cunard's own recommended Insurer, Holiday Extras, who we already use. Any suggestions????
BouncingWheel Posted August 1, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2022 £5,000 is not an issue for almost all mainstream insurers - they are usually around the 15k per person limit. Your issue is more likely to be around the number of days away - over 90 and things can start getting tricky. My advice, for UK travellers, is to contact BIBA (British Insurance Brokers Association) on 0370 9501790 and they will put you thru to a specialist broker who can handle either long durations and/or large amounts to be insured. I recently went thru this route myself and basically all routes basically ended up at BIBA in the end. Most standard insurers will direct you to a money advice service travel directory but if you get to speak/online chat to a human being there they will direct you to BIBA. 3

Poole Boy Posted August 1, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 1, 2022 You could try LV, they gave a competitive price for a pre covid WC of 121 days even with pre existing conditions. single trip policy would be better as they generally cover longer duration trips
Photo Andy Posted August 1, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 1, 2022 This was in the Sunday Times (UK) yesterday and eventually the person cancelled the holiday and Cunard returned the deposit.
Crown Vic Posted August 1, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 1, 2022 Our concern with our QM2 extended voyage booking is cancellation due to Covid. If we Covid cancel in the ten days prior to embarkation, Cunard offers a Future Cruise Credit for the fare paid. Health insurance is another matter as the Cunard coverage is very limited. Shall be looking elsewhere for proper health coverage but, depending on age and health, it ain’t gonna be cheap…but then again…neither is the fare. Good luck Queen of the Queens. Cheers!
Stella1250 Posted August 2, 2022 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2022 Try American Express Travel Insurance. They will cover up to $50,000 per individual. You do not need to have an Amex card to purchase the insurance.
bbtablet Posted August 2, 2022 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2022 Queen of the Queens (are you really Her Majesty?!) - you may know that In GB standard house and contents insurance only allows up to 30 days continuous absence from home property for the quoted premiums, so worth checking that out too to ensure cover - just a thought.
Host Hattie Posted August 2, 2022 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2022 Have you tried asking on the roll call for your World Cruise ?
Queen of the Queens Posted August 4, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted August 4, 2022 Thanks Host Hattie - I don't know what 'roll call' means for this cruise. I have emailed Customer Services to see if they have any advice, but they are normally pretty slow at responding. Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions and tips! 🙂

The way we got around that was our wonderful neighbours came in every day to check all was well. The insurance company were happy with that arrangement. Queen of the Queens Posted August 5, 2022 Author #14 Share Posted August 5, 2022 Thanks - that is a great idea! I have searched and don't think one exists yet (we aren't due off until January 2024) so I will create one. Cheers
