can one go into the crown grill for wine without dinner?

Apparently not but surely the Crown Bar would have same wines as served in the Grill, if that is your motivation.

is the "crown grill bar menu" different from the 'crown bar'.

I looked at the link above and saw that the " new crown grill bar menu" listed Veure Clicquuot and caymas as wine by the glass. I did not see them listed elsewhere. For bubbles and red wines by the glass these could make the premium package a tipping point in favor of the upgrade. However, if you could only access these wines while upgrading to a specialty restaurant you are doubly limited by your meal choice  and by time ( only able to find the wine during dining hours. )  so not worth the upgrade or the frustration. If there is an accessible bar that serves these wines by the glass that would be NICE.

On Enchanted there is no Vines … there is the Salty Dog gastropub in its place.
No wine flights.

No wine flights in Vines on Emerald anyway.

I think Princess is 'done' with the Wine Bar concept....wouldn't be surprised if they convert existing Vines to something else.....such a shame. They used to be a really nice place for a pre-dinner glass of wine...

Princess Plus has been the start of a whole different concept of drinking onboard.  Can’t say we enjoyed it and wouldn’t have it again if it was an option.

Actually, given the rapid decline in the value of sterling against the dollar,  as Brits we would not consider cruising on Princess if the PP was not offered.

On Enchanted last week a kind waitress in Sabatinis gave us this list of wines that she recommended we should try in the other restaurants / bars to make full use of our premium package. She told us to be insistent as these were in stock.

Asking for these in the MDR led to a 20 minute wait as the waiter disappeared somewhere to get them. By mid week we were offered a “double” to save them a second journey. The bottles were to hand in the Crown Grill Bar and some in Crooners.
Interestingly, in the Bistro my wife had a glass of the Chalk Hill (20 min wait) but her refill was the Sauvingion from the counter!
The Bel Gloss and Zinfandel were my favourites.

We had the Chalk Hill Sauvignon Blanc at the Captain Circle lunch but tried unsuccessfully to get it at any bar.  They gave me the regular and tried to charge the additional cost.  Makes you feel like the wine police .. asking to see the bottle.  😵💫.  Whispering Angel Rose was the same.  Before long it will just be white or red .. take it or leave it!   The casino bar went tho the most effort to try and get named wines but after a couple of days we just gave up.

Your server was right on the mark. Those are all the same wines that I would recommend to a friend if asked.

One of the more frustrating (and it's hard to pick) issues on the sky princess is that every bar/restaurant seems to have a different wine menu.  The most incredible example is that our Crown Grill waiter told us the only wine available by the glass was the basic wine...the one's listed as chardonnay, zinfandel, etc.  I pulled out the medallion application which amazingly actually worked (that's another frustration) and showed the waiter the list of wines offered by the Capital grill by the glass....and I suggested he send over the maitre d'  which didn't endear us to him, but had some results...he borrowed my phone to show someone....and returned asking which wine I'd like.  I selected one and he disappeared.  Returned a few minutes later with a large pour of that wine.

Cutting through the above....how could anyone at princess think it's a good idea to take their prize steakhouse at sea and only offer their cheapest wine or wines by the bottle to those who have the better wine package, etc....or have their heralded medallion application show information that's wrong...(on several nights the menu shown for a restaurant did not include the dishes on the medallion app menu for that day).

Perhaps it was a mistrained waiter, but overall, compared to pre-covid princess cruises, the quality of offerings has dropped considerably....that includes entertainment, speakers, food and wine.  Fortunately, the outstanding people service is still there and perhaps Princess will return to it's previous enjoyable levels.  We are not booking any more Princess cruises, based on our just completed Sky Princess cruise.
