Breakaway in Boston

A waste. Arrived from St John ( skipped Halifax due to hurricane). Last minute substitute. Terrible mess. Would of done better with a second relaxing day at sea. Spent an hour waiting for Silver Sea to vacate our berth. Haven waited from 12:45 in 15 minute increments until 3 to go thru immigration on the ship. Perfunctory glance. Tours left late. Pier is nowhere near anything. We got a taxi after waiting 20 minutes with the intention of going to Quincy market. The Friday night traffic was so bad , we turned around and went back to the ship. At 4:30 the ship was still discharging passengers. There was a hop on bus at the port but the last one leaves at five. Fortunately we have been to Boston many times but for someone excited to see the port it was a real waste of time.

Yeah,  I wouldn't want to be a tourist in Boston on a Friday afternoon.

I feel bad for those who actually don't know the city and were hoping to get to see some of the sights.

Update. Captain decided the trip back to New York was too choppy so we are staying in Boston until 4:00 am. All aboard 3:00 am live it up. Casino closed tonight. Also the one shop on board for clothes, sun dries sweatshirts is closed due to renovation so everyone is walking around with Bar Harbor Maine sweatshirts. Bring warm outerwear

Go ashore and have dinner.

Sorry your trip didn't go as planned.  Sounds like it was a real mess in Boston.

It did make me wonder though what happens to people with vouchers from the casino if it doesn't open?  I know I often cash out and keep the coupon to use the next day.  There may be a machine for cashing tickets but I'm not sure.  I wonder if they can somehow allow the casino to open to cash tickets.  I guess anyone with coupons better get to the machine before it runs out of cash!  Lol!

Hope you manage to enjoy the rest of your trip such as it is.

The gangway was metal. Not too long but a longish walk to the buses ( taxi stand). The casino will open tomorrow all day

Thanks for the info.  For some reason I thought you were getting into NYC tomorrow.  Glad you still have another full day and hope it's enjoyable!

Too bad you didn't know that earlier.  Then you could have tried to get a reservation in the North End for some fine Italian food.

In the Haven , no need. Impossible to get transportation back and forth. Best lobster roll I ever had at DeMillos in Portland. Best seafood chowder with no potatoes,  just clams and lobster in St Martins on top ten tour ( which was otherwise sad)

Just got off Joy and saw that "St. Martin's" tour out of Sydney (IIRC)with the seafood chowder.  Glad the soup was great but what was wrong with the tour?

Good luck in the casino your last day after rather problematic weather!

Every year we get people booking hurricane cruises and every year we get complainers that they didn’t get to go to this port or that it was total mayhem when their ship had to divert to a non-scheduled port and immigration and tours were a total mess. I guess NCL is still filling ships and paying bills so the bad publicity they get every hurricane season outweighs it.

Just pause cruising for those months and focus on filling the ships in the Med until November then bring the ships back for the Caribbean.

BA was last tracked off just east of Cape Cod, MA go around (typical routing between NYC/BOS) - hugging the coastline a little closer, and should be more or less on track for her scheduled morning arrival.  Just go to marinetraffic dot com & key in your search.  Happy cruising !

Yes we are sailing within sight of the cape shoreline. Seas are very calm. Bright sun. Made the finals of the slot tournament. Came in second. Having a great time. One of the comedians (Dean) spent two years on SNL and is a real professional. Very funny, do not miss. Do not have high expectations for the St John tour it is a very modest sleepy town bur our tour guide Ron Fowlie was terrific. Dry sense of humor ( dressed in 18th century costume and was very enjoyable. And helpful point out where to buy a sandwich and where the many rest rooms would be located. My husband spent three years in Boston in law school and is not a fan so we didn’t feel we had to go out of our way to see the town. .

PS I’m not complaining about a missed port ( Captain made a safety call) but the immigration and customs poorly run nonsense. We once went through this in Norfolk Virginia ( before coming back to New York and it was done so much better. But if they didn’t expect us ( one day notice) i guess I have to cut them some slack,

dean edwards was on SNL in 2001 and 2002 and never "broke through." he struggled to get noticed and received very little screen time, despite some spot-on impressions. he left after two years, citing "creative differences." so, it's odd that he would tout his brief tenure on SNL as a career highlight. glad to hear he's working and that he's still talented and funny.

Was walking on the beach this PM and could see the ship in the far distance. Moving very very slowly and yes it was close to shore. Hard to tell if it was just outside the 3 mile limit so the casino could open.
