Southampton hotel - a little bit special for a big birthday

I am doing a Caribbean cruise next year for a big birthday.  I would like to spend a night or 2 in Southampton before I get on the ship.

Does anyone have any personal recommendations of hotels that are a little 'special'?  I am wanting something more than a Premier Inn or Travelodge. 

It doesn't have to be central, as I have seen some lovely spa type hotels in Hampshire.

Parking is not a requirement, so it doesn't have to be a hotel that has a cruise/stay type deal.

The Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa in Ocean Village is lovely - it’s close enough to walk into the centre of Southampton but just a little bit away from all the traffic of a city centre. There are some lovely places to eat in Ocean Village too.

I agree, Ocean Village Hotel hard to beat.

Food, accommodation, views, all are splendid.

A bit pricey but worth it!

You mention spa hotels. My US friend uses this before catching QM2 home every time he visits.  It's about 22 miles to the Southampton cruise port.

We stay at the Pig in the Wall. Its rustic, boutique and gorgeous..

Lainston House- north of Winchester or ther are some good hotels in the new Forest eg Limewood

I second megabears choice, I’ve stayed a few times at the chewton Glen if you want special it’s it with a spa but pricey, out door heated pool as well and takes about 30 minutes to get to Southampton or they do drive you there options.

We’ve stayed at Chewton Glen a few times but it is pricey. 
 

Have stayed at a couple of Harbour Hotels & I really rate them as a mid price type of place. I’m always pleasantly surprised as to how good they are but I haven’t stayed in Southampton.

In my opinion the Ageas Bowl Hilton in a balcony room overlooking the pitch is excellent. They also do cruise parking deals.

I agree. We had a big room at the Ageas Bowl with patio doors (fresh air!) overlooking the pitch a couple of years ago. I much prefer hotels out of Southampton. We had a poor experience at the over-priced new Southampton Harbour Spa Hotel and wouldn't stay there again.
