Best Charleston, SC restaurant that is super close to the cruise ship dock!

I am inclined to think the “best” restaurant anywhere would not just specialize in BBQ. While I really enjoy it, I would suggest that if someone wants a really great dining experience in Charleston near the cruise terminal, they should try High Cotton or Magnolias - both on East Bay Street, a couple of blocks from the cruise pier.

Probably closest to the cruise port is Fleet Landing Restaurant.  It sticks out over the water.  We stayed at a hotel just across the street a couple years ago.  The food was good, it was a fun atmosphere.  We were in Charleston for a week and ate there two nights for dinner.  It was not terribly expensive either.  We ate several different types of seafood.

Not close to the port but the best seafood imho is across the bridge in Mr. Pleasant.

The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene

known locally as The Wreck.  On Haddrell Street in Mt Pleasant

BTW we live at the beach 80 miles north of Charleston and go fairly often.

Can't understand why BBQ has been mentioned and Lewis isn't mentioned.  By far the best Brisket and Beef Ribs this side of Houston!  I drive 4.5 hours each way twice a year just to eat lunch there!  Yes, the other restaurants mentioned are worthy (though we have had mixed results at Fleet Landing).

Lewis is good but it is not SC barbecue. You really need to experience  it. 4 different sauces

pepper vinegar

mustard based

heavy tomato

 light tomato

Also SC barbecue hash (not a corned beef hash) which is unique to SC

Absolute best place is Hyman's Seafood.

The only REAL BBQ is South Carolina pulled port BBQ.  To me, vinegar based sauce of the best but sometimes I will tolerate the mustard base sauce of the low country. 😀

Another vote for Fleet landing restaurant and you must try the pecan pie! On our second visit ordered it again, later asked and received the recipe.

The location is great to sit (outside) and watch the world go by.
