Ivy86 Posted November 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2022 What is the closest airport to this cruise port ? Any suggestions from transportation to get to Warnemünde?
d9704011 Posted November 27, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 27, 2022 Hamburg (HAM). Take the train(s) from there to Rostock/Warnemunde. Berlin (BER) is further away but may provide more flight options depending where you are coming in from.
hallasm Posted November 27, 2022 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2022 Need to know from where to answer your question. I would drive to Gedser and then take the ferry from Gedser to Warnemünde. I’m living ‘somewhere near to that cruise port’ - might not work for you. Train from Berlin will be an obvious choice. Depends!
Hezu Posted November 28, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2022 The nearest airport is Rostock Laage Airport, but it does not really have any significant connections to any airline hubs or like (eg. for the current week there is just couple holiday flights to destinations in Canary Islands and Egypt). But as the previous posters answered, you could always take train(s) from elsewhere in Germany.
bearette Posted December 21, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) Hamburg is coming out cheaper for us and a little closer than Berlin. There also appears to be an area ticket for groups that makes the train 31€ for two versus around that price for one from Berlin. 2.5-3hrs with one stop in Rostock on the train. Yes, you can buy a Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ticket to use from Hamburg to Rostock. Regional trains only, not intercity. It’s good value, especially when travelling as a family. AnhaltER1960 Posted January 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2023 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ticket is indeed a cheap choice for getting from Hamburg to Rostock-(Warnemünde). But this gets you deeply into the labyrinth of German train tariffs. You may only use regional trains (no Intercity or ICE-trains), which easily adds one hour to your travel time (assume 4+ hrs one-way). And you may only use the RE 1 Train Hamburg-Rostock directly, as connections via Lübeck will require a Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket, which is a bit more expensive.
