I just can’t wait until the cruisecritic community get access to that ship. We will get the scoop.
vividharp Posted November 12, 2023 #853 Share Posted November 12, 2023 The princess ships that I’ve been on do not have aft lifts. It’s definitely interesting to see.
Rare dides Posted November 12, 2023 #854 Share Posted November 12, 2023 All the most recent ships on the Excellence Class platform appear to have mostly balcony cabins on their aft so Princess have really gone their own way here

Blows my mind that they are using aft facing space as exterior stairwell on both sides! We have a deck 17 penthouse suite and it’s the only floor where the side balcony extends a little bit for a wake view. I don’t understand Princess’ thought process here.

Thank you @dides for continuing to keep up with the scoops and updates 🙏👐 I've looked hard and I do think the balconies on Sun are definitely wider than on the Royal-class, but...what do you think? Wide enough to properly stretch out like before? Me thinks still not quite. Also, your astute observation of the aft outside staircases leapt out at me as I hadn't noticed this would be the case prior as well. And the public deck plan really confirms this to be the case. What a peculiar move; we'll see if the stairwells will even be for public access or if it's just one of those for emergencies!

It's hard to find a great comparison with the same angle but they do look a little deeper . But cruisemapper says Sun balconies are 3 metres squared compared to 4 on Royal Class. So does that mean they are narrower lengthwise? 1st pic - Sun, 2nd pic Royal Class Edited November 13, 2023 by dides 2

So glad you're always holding the fort down for the rest of us! Yes, I definitely meant "deeper"! The word escaped me for a bit there. But wow, thanks for sharing that statistic because I was really just going by eye and now I'm questioning everything. I really want the best for Sun but my gut feeling is that we'll be getting a pretty polarized reaction to everything for the first few months...or year (a la Royal in 2013, perhaps?) -- ie. the radical change in the design language for the cabins and more possible balcony size kerfuffles leading to further inevitable discourse about the "new direction of Princess" and the like.

I tend to agree - I remember the excitement of the new with the Royal in 2013 (and jumping on one of her 2 day preview cruises) but then came the balcony size complaints, lack of prom deck, initial lack of mid-ship stairs, squeezing everyone into that TV Studio. Sphere class won't be for everyone but hopefully enough positives in the end.

I’m excited for a change. I’m so intrigued with the 3 story dining room. I know my beloved mini-suite is smaller making room for those cabana mini-suites but I will manage. I look forward to the reviews.

The Horizons Dining Room elevates the traditional main dining experience with stunning wake views and natural light that highlight a decorative sculpture, stretching from deck 6 to deck 8. Horizons will serve guests multicourse meals from friendly waitstaff with each level having its own personality, offering different dining experiences and ranges in levels of formality. Pixelskaya Posted November 14, 2023 #867 Share Posted November 14, 2023 Perhaps it’s because it will be my second cruise ever (first was on the Enchanted), but I think it looks amazing! You’re the experts so it’s normal that you can compare and spot all the negatives already, but I can’t wait to explore it with my friends!

AbbyGirl Posted November 14, 2023 #869 Share Posted November 14, 2023 I love to cruise. I've been on new ships and old ships, smaller ships and larger ships. While it will be awesome to be on another new ship, I don't stress too much about the design of the ship. What ever it looks like, the layout, the size of different area's of the ship, to me, it's still a cruise and I will adapt. It's a week out of my life as I don't expect to retire on a cruise ship any time soon. That being said, I am very much looking forward to the new ship and the itinerary as we've never been to the Med before.

Deck plans, comments, port info, weather - the whole gamut. We started one for Sun yesterday. This is a casino comp so it's pretty cheap. Best way for us to cruise nowadays. 😀 There are thing we'll like and things that are not our cup of tea. I expect we'll spend most of our time on decks 8 and 9. Though how the Sphere is used could be interesting. Like any new ship, we shall see.
rbtan Posted November 14, 2023 #871 Share Posted November 14, 2023 I still wonder what the Cabana Reserve will look like. It's different from a standard Reserve minisuite. Perhaps someone has a clue.
