Rare onlyslightlymad Posted January 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2023 After a stormy week here in NZ, we now have a cyclone warning. I feel for the cruise ship passengers parked up here over the last couple of days. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/weather-heavy-rain-watch-in-wellington-cancels-cook-strait-ferry-services-gisborne-wastewater-system-floods/BQKOMWLQLBAV3A3W2JYBBSVY7I/

A girlfriend of mine is currently on Coral Princess. I hope she doesn't get caught up in Cyclone Hale, as she is someone who has to have a needle to stop sea sickness. Rare MicCanberra Posted January 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2023 Even keeping an island between them and the storm may still provide for a bumpy cruise, she may need the jab.

I heard from my friend in Wellington. They will miss Napier and Tauranga, with the next port of call, the Bay of Islands. They got into all the Sounds as it was quite calm. No rain on port days. NSWP Posted January 9, 2023 #7 Share Posted January 9, 2023 (edited) Slightly off topic but still bumpy seas. My son, his wife and two teenage daughters are currently on Ocean Victory, one of his company's vessels to Antarctica, they encountered 10 metre seas through ye olde Drake Passage which is not unusual. Calmer waters at the moment in the ice. Edited January 9, 2023 by NSWP

Every time I read of such seas, I'm reminded how lucky we were to have calm Drake.
