Hi everyone,

We are 3 adults taking a cruise in July from Venice. 1st time in Venice As well.

We are going to spend 2 nights there pre cruise.

One of the days we want to do a trip to St Anthony of Padua. We are fine with taking the train over there.

Which hotel can you suggest that's convenient for this day trip as well as taking the cruise?

Meaning...convenient to travel to the train station and also go to the ship on the day of embarkation. Hope this makes sense!

Hello.

The first thing you need to do is check if you are really sailing from Venice (very unlikely) or if you are sailing from somewhere like Ravenna (much more likely). Transit time from Venice to Ravenna is at least a couple of hours.

The only hotel I've stayed in in Venice is the Hotel Metropole (Official Website Hotel Metropole in Venice | Book a stay now), which we loved. It has very easy access to the vaporetto and St Mark's square

Two nights means that you only have one full day there and that will be the day you go to Padua.

If possible,  add another night so you can actually visit Venice.

Do check the port for the cruise. Is it Ravenna, Trieste, Marghera? Could it be one of the very few small ships that leaves from Venice?   Transportation could require you to leave Venice early on your last day.

The  most convenient area for you would be around Piazzale Roma.  The Marriott AC would be a good choice.

Agree with this location as being the most convenient even if not the prettiest area of Venice.

Another hotel to consider as very convenient (no bridges to cross with luggage if arriving from the airport by bus) is the Santa Chiara.

On our trip to Venice this past October, we stayed at the Hotel Filu located on Fondametta Cannaregio. Check out the "4K Live Cam of Ponte delle Guglie" webcam on YouTube to sample the view from the hotel of the canal. It is adjacent to the Guglie Routes 4.1/4.2 vaporetto stop which is also used by the Alilaguna - Line Arancio airport vaporetto. It is only a 550m (1/3 of a mile) walk to Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia. There are plenty of restaurants nearby including our favorite with canal-side seating, Trattoria Poveledo.  Enjoy!

It does appear that the MSC Splendida is using Trieste for embarkation in 2023. The train ride to Trieste is approximately 2 hours from Venice. There is a second route that travels by way of Treviso and does take longer.

How are you arriving to Venice?  If by plane, a taxi would probably be the easiest option to Venice for 3 pax; about 45e and 20 minutes.  Or if you want to save a few $, take the ATVO Airport Express bus, 10E pp, also 20 minutes. The bus leaves from just outside the airport exit doors; you can buy a ticket from a machine inside. Usually 3 x per hr.

Either way, you will be dropped at Piazzale Roma, which is the last point of land travel in Venice, so basically a big parking lot for buses.  There are a few hotels right on this square and several more if you can manage a small bridge and 2 blocks walking.

PRoma isn't an attractive area but it's very convenient. It's a block from the Grand Canal. And on the other side of the Canal is the SL Lucia Train Station.  There's a large bridge to cross (as seen in the attached link). The steps are shallow but there are a lot of them.
