Rare lprp Posted February 1, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 1, 2023 @GeorgiaPeach51 I loved the Century Series by Ken Follett and was utterly bereft when I finished it. The history lesson was better than any I had at school! Can I suggest: The Clifton Chronicles series by Jeffrey Archer - several parallels with above mentioned Ken Follett series . The Nathan McBride series by Andrew Petersen (shades of David Baldacci). John Milton series by Mark Dawson, fairly easy read rogue/off grid MI6 agent but quite stark - there are LOADS of them, some, predictably, are better than others. Matthew Shardlake Mysteries by CJ Sansom (historical fiction time of Henry VIII) Marc Dane series by James Swallow LP
Rare GeorgiaPeach51 Posted February 1, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted February 1, 2023 (edited) @lprp thanks. I’ve added your list and will post the updated list in a few days in case others want to add their book suggestions. FYI. IrishKathy Posted February 1, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 1, 2023 Joanie, Absolutely loved your review of the TA on the Splendor. We are taking the same cruise - Rome/Miami - this November. Would you be willing to chat with me via email as I have many questions which I know will come up later this year? I am kathyallitto@gmail.com Loved your book list. Made a copy of it. One does need to fill up our Kindles before any cruise 😉 Kathy

travlr21 Posted February 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2023 @GeorgiaPeach51 thanks for the list. Many of my favorites are there, and I look forward to checking out others from the list. A couple of suggestions. Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett murder mystery series, by CJ Box. Also Bruno Chief of Police series by Martin Walker (interesting plots, small town France, lots of descriptions of food and drink, somewhat like the Louise Penny series.)
Damaris1900 Posted February 2, 2023 #7 Share Posted February 2, 2023 (edited) What a great book list, GeorgiaPeach, thanks for posting that. There were lots of old favorites, as well as some series to download before the next cruise. I'd also suggest the Falco (Roman) mystery series by Lindsey Davis, as well as her more recent series which follows Falco's daughter, Flavia Albia. Kerry *****, an Australian author, the Phryne Fisher mysteries, and the Corinna Chapman mysteries Edited to add: For some reason CC is substituting asterisks for the name "*****". NO idea why. Did it again, I guess just Google the Phryne Fisher mysteries for the author's name. Edited February 2, 2023 by Damaris1900 ?

Rare GeorgiaPeach51 Posted February 2, 2023 Author #9 Share Posted February 2, 2023 @Damaris1900 it did it to me, too….so I put a hyphen in the name to get it to show something close to the real name of the author. portnoys complainer Posted February 4, 2023 #13 Share Posted February 4, 2023 Currently reading a book about Napoleon, cleverly titled "Napoleon, A Life." I'm not recommending it, only because I haven't finished it. But a few hundred pages ago, I recall that Napoleon, in preparing for his invasions of Malta and Egypt, carried over one hundred books with him, and a lot of wine. I think the last book on the list was Julius Caesar - although I don't know if it meant Bill Shakespeare's or some other work. Anyway, the point is that, as avid readers, we all are in good company! I should also note, I suppose, that the intrusion into Egypt was a failed one, but these things happen. Overall, I think Napoleon's batting average was a sparkling .863.
portnoys complainer Posted February 4, 2023 #14 Share Posted February 4, 2023 Addendum: The itinerary for Napoleon's Mediterranean cruise was: Toulon, Valletta, Chania and Alexandria.

Thanks for the list, @GeorgiaPeach51. As others have noted, some old favorites and some I will need to seek out. I laughed out loud to see Tim Dorsey's name on the list--he's an acquired taste and it helps if you know something about life in Florida. But if you like series about crazy, genius serial killers and drug-addict sidekicks, the series is hysterical. Dorsey comes out with a new one every year with the latest due this month. You are correct to link him with Carl Hiaasen as "Florida Man" fiction as well! I just finished the Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott series. You'll need LOTS of sea days to finish the six-book series--I think the books average about 1,000 pages. Cinemax has made a show based on the series, but i have not seen it. Take care and happy reading,
mtnestr2011 Posted February 6, 2023 #16 Share Posted February 6, 2023 Love it, thanks @GeorgiaPeach51 for compiling this list! A couple more I would add are Steve Berry and the Cotton Malone series (obscure history woven into modern day thrillers), and anything written by Kristin Hannah (The Nightingale, especially).
