I don’t think they will be disadvantaged for the rest of their lives. Small kids to me means pre schoolers. It is school age kids that lost out when things went online. The kids didn’t lose out because they didn’t know how to use technology. They lost out because they didn’t do anything to learn. If you could easily skip class and pass, from the perspective of a 14 year old, why wouldn’t you? Most of them could easily cheat on online exams (if they even had them). Zero adult supervision in many cases is not a good scenario for teenagers leaning. Bottom line, they fell behind because they didn’t absorb the content, not because they didn’t know how to click a mouse and navigate a menu system.

So everyone could hear both sides of the entire conversation. I can top that…just heard a speaker phone conversation on an elevator on the Anthem. Person was oblivious to our looks and stares. Where is Larry David when you need him?

That's when you start talking loudly or making noises to interfere with their oh so important call.

I have heard people riding Amtrak on speakerphone making multimillion dollar deals. Also discussing upcoming criminal indictments. Also telling their boss they were home sick. 1

I make it a point to flush loud and often! 1

While you think that it is bad, your kids will be playing catch up with others for the rest of their lives. During the pandemic, those technically challenged kids and parent fell further behind when everything went online. Should watch interviews with Mr Rodgers about actual childhood development and the importance emotionally of being able to play out imagined scenarios. Technology manipulates in a way that is not healthy play, so I disagree and many specialists will also. Early childhood play is more complex than just learning manual or technical skills. Ego is developing, as is the sense of self., feelings of confidence and security, which support ability to assert oneself and plan. But is good you care. The only ones who bring coloring books and activities for our kids. No tablets, no phones. It’s so unhealthy for them. Watching other parents shove a phone in a small kids face is really hard for me to watch. Just sad. You're not the only ones. When mine was little (first cruise at 3) I brought sticker books and craft kits. Now she's 11 so we just talk or play word games if dinner is taking a while to arrive! She doesn't have a phone at home either.
