Latitudes - onboard discounts, automatic or do you have to ask?

I'm just now paying attention to the Latitudes benefits and see the discounts I can get at the shops and spa. 

Do I have to ask for them when I am there, or do they automatically come off when they scan my card?

They will automatically be applied to your bill.

Only applies to NCL branded merch from what I remember.  Jewelry, watches, booze, etc from Duty Free are not included on any Latitudes discounts.

Correct.  Only NCL branded merchandise.

 You shouldn't have...this is right in the Latitude terms:

 

 ² Discounts available in duty-free shops on all Norwegian logo merchandise. Cannot be combined with another additional discount or coupon.

Best to never assume! 

If they swipe your card the discount is usually applied.  If they just ask for your room number it might not.

If you book an excursion onboard, you MUST ask for your latitudes discount, it will not be automatic.

In my experience, it is always best to make use it is being applied by asking when the item is being rung up. Hey, if you ask about it and they say a particular item isn't eligible, it didn't hurt to ask...

With NCL it's always, always better to ask....

We always just say “make sure the latitudes discounts get applied”. And yes, it is normally only NCL logo items in gift shops. We normally have a lot of OBC and spend a lot in the gift shops.

Make sure you mention in advance. I purchased 2 items at the Sandbar that was NCL branded merchandise. I incorrectly assumed that it would have automatically  taken off the discount, but it did not. The employee had to go through the whole process of creating a return then ringing up the item again. Sadly this also created a long line behind me since she was the only one attending the register.

They have always tried to screw me out of the discounts both at the excursion desk and at the gift shop.   Always ask.
