CAR RENTAL AGENCIES WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF CRUISE PORT

We are cruising on Royal Caribbean and will be stopping in Halifax, Nova Scotia for a day. We would like to rent a car to explore on our own. Are there any car agencies within walking distance from the port? Thank you for any recommendations.

The last time I researched car rentals near the port, the big Westin hotel, right across the street and co-incident with the train station, had a lot of the big agencies. According to Google Maps, it's only a few hundred yards away

To lx200gps' point there is definitely a Hertz (or at least was when we were last there in 2019) in the Westin that is very close to the dock-- just across a parking lot. I would double check their website and definitely make a confirmed reservation ahead of time.

There was an Enterprise or National there also.  Just be warned that the entrance is not well marked on that side so keep a sharp eye out.

Howdy --- I've done both of these rental car locations and found them to be an easy walk from the port.  The only issue is that I was second in line at Dollar and the person that was first in line was being a jerk and complaining about the car he was assigned.  He wanted a larger car at a smaller price.  The agent was attempting to accommodate him, but it was still going to be a couple dollars more for the larger rental car.  Jerk wanted the full size for less than compact price that he reserved.

Be aware that the ship may actually dock well south of the path shown on the map.  You get to the rental cars the same way but the starting point may well south of the University shown on the first map.

I have the same question about Bar Harbor.  It appears that car rental places are all at the airport which is some distance from the port.  Anyone know of anything closer?

There are no car rentals in Bar Harbor. There are electric cars that are rented by the tender pier, during season.

Yes, there are a few car rental agencies close to the Halifax cruise port. One of the more convenient options is Enterprise, located just a short walk from the port at Hollis Street. Another possibility is Avis, which is also within walking distance. Both offer a range of vehicles and should work well for a day of exploring. It's a good idea to book in advance, especially during cruise season, as rentals can go quickly.

We did not rent a car in Halifax port, but we did rent from Enterprise in both Sydney and Charlottetown. In both of those ports, the Enterprise folks sent a van to the port to pick up the driver/renter (they will only take the driver, as they don't have a vehicle large enough for all passengers). We called the local office direct when we were given the all-clear to disembark. In both ports, there were several other folks from the ship renting cars, too. At both of those ports, after we returned the rental car, Enterprise took all of us back to the ship. Call the Enterprise office in Halifax to ask if they also offer this for thier renters.
