Travel Insurance alert for Ambassador!

Can anyone tell me if I am ok to go on Ambassador with just NW Flexplus account travel insurance? 
I gather I shouldn’t buy this cruise upgrade they offer

Is the policy adequate for cruising or should I buy a different policy with another company?

Nationwide will give you basic cruise cover but won't allow the optional missed ports and cabin confinement upgrade.

Thank you, I think I can live with those two things excluded, I’m concerned about having adequate medical cover and missing the ship in port cover, I had better phone them. The policy documents are not very straightforward!

Looking at this from another perspective does anyone know why Ambassador is not a CLIA Member?       Is it simply because they have to trade for a period before being allowed to join or is it that they dont meet the standards required.  As a step further Should travel agents or Ambassador  be advising us when making a booking?

Apparent on a recent sailing the CEO stated that Ambassador will not be joining CLIA and there is no benefit in doing so. Other companies like Hurtigruten and Viking are not members so they must also have reasons for not wanting to join.

Interestingly Viking (River and Ocean separately) are listed as covered suppliers for Allianz trip insurance in the US, but not Hurtigruten or Ambassador.  So obviously CLIA membership doesn't matter for Allianz.

I rang today as we are currently switching accounts to Flexplus and they are still saying Ambassador aren't covered by any part of the policy - until I quoted this thread. After being put on hold, they came back and said the main policy applies to Ambassador cruises, but not the upgrade - cabin confinement etc

Nationwide Flex Plus have honoured claims of 4 couples we know of, for missed ports on the autumn Canada and Greenland cruise (but missed 4 ports including Iceland and Greenland due to weather conditions). 
We knew that the main policy covered cruise travel, but had understood that the additional  ‘cruise cover’ policy would not apply to Ambassador as it is not a member of CLIA.
