Avidtravler Posted May 13, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2023 Has anyone ever rented a car at disembarkation in Seward AK to get to the airport in Anchorage for the return home? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
curmudgeon98 Posted May 13, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2023 We did it the other way (a few years ago). Limited options and somewhat expensive, but Hertz was right by the port at the time. Seward and environs can be easily worth a day or two if you have the time. If it was just to get the two of us to the airport, I'd be of mixed mind whether to do the train, bus, or rental car (might depend on how many ships are in port that day). Michyfis Posted May 13, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 13, 2023 We spent the day in Seward after our cruise and took the evening train to Anchorage and spent the night there. The train ride was beautiful and both of us could see the scenery.

MarEll1 Posted May 13, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2023 Avidtravler- Here is the link to cruise mapper https://www.cruisemapper.com/ports/seward-port-1?tab=schedule&month=2023-08#schedule it looks like you will be the only ship in port that day, which happens to be the day we board! Rare RachelG Posted May 14, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 14, 2023 We rented a car in Seward and drove to anchorage. Very nice day. The car rental place is right by the port. Highly recommend stopping at the animal sanctuary on the way. It is a must see.
Rare mj_holiday Posted May 14, 2023 #7 Share Posted May 14, 2023 I want to second the train ride. We did it getting to the ship in Seward and it was a great afternoon.
cruiseej Posted May 15, 2023 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2023 We rented a car from Hertz in Seward, and returned it in Anchorage. It was crazy expensive, but they were the only game in town; the franchise also didn't honor Hertz coupons and discount codes. But it was worthwhile to be able to explore on our own. wolfie11 Posted May 17, 2023 #9 Share Posted May 17, 2023 As far as I know, no one will do one-way rentals out of Seward this summer.

Thanks Margo
