Rare Shiba_Lover Posted May 23, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2023 Looking to book on the starboard side on Ascent. For those that have sailed on one of the other E series ships on starboard side - is the view blocked by the magic carpet? (Specifically want starboard for this sailing, I'm aware the magic carpet would not be an issue on port side) I am looking at sky suites (around 10156 / 10154 / 10152 area) on Ascent. This is the same layout as Beyond or Apex. Is it better to be behind it? Thanks!
jelayne Posted May 23, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2023 Haven’t stayed in 1 of those but have done MC suite and the cabins close by could see us ( we could also see them) so I think would think the large orange structure at each end would obstruct the view. Oh - I'm more meaning can we see the view of the ocean / shore when we are near (looking backwards). Not really concerned about seeing other cabin neighbors or them seeing us. Good point. I'll edit my comment if there's still time. Edited May 23, 2023 by Shiba_Lover
jelayne Posted May 23, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2023 Your view straight out wouldn’t be obstructed however your side view will have the MC

So looking forwards will be OK I think (the cabins that jut out a bit won't be in the way). Straight out will be good, but looking back, we may be blocked by the MC. I think my other option is a sunset SS or a MC I guess. Did you have any issue with a MC room? Any reason to NOT book one of these? How was the view from it? Blocked by the orange sides? Sox Fan Cruiser Posted May 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted May 23, 2023 Why not just get a Sky Suite on the Port side? I would never get a Magic Carpet Sky Suite as it's a totally different balcony experience and balconies matter to me.

Can you elaborate on the differences in the balcony experience? We are in a MC SS on Edge next May and I booked it for the front view as well as the aft view through the side window. We love the Magic Carpet suites and I don’t see any difference in balcony experience.
Sox Fan Cruiser Posted May 24, 2023 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) They look very enclosed. The videos I saw had windows port or aft but it could have been the deck they were on. Our Sky suite balcony was very open and like any other regular balcony. All that orange around me would totally turn me off. Maybe your cabin is okay. I would look for it on YouTube to know what you are getting. I have not watched one video that would make me want to be in that cabin. The next category of SS was a couple K more...for the same experience. So I will suffer through 😊.
Sox Fan Cruiser Posted May 24, 2023 #11 Share Posted May 24, 2023 I get it. But for me I don’t rate quality on price. The money, to me, is not a factor over what I want.

We will suffer right along with you. 😊
ohiojohn Posted May 24, 2023 #13 Share Posted May 24, 2023 Talk about suffering, our last 2 Apex cruises were in the same MS suite. This December we will be in the same exact MS suite on the Ascent. Then Sep 2024, yep same MS suite on the Edge to Hawaii. What is the probability of getting the same exact MS suite. When I mention the same exact suite I mean same floor and 3rd MS from the front.

Rare PinkSandGirl Posted May 24, 2023 #15 Share Posted May 24, 2023 (edited) Hi! I was in 9170 and my mom and dad in 9168 on the Beyond. The same cabin position on Deck 10 as my 9170 is 10146, so next to the first cabin you have listed. I was worried because we were on an 'indent'. I always book cabins on the furtherst part that sticks out so I was a bit worried. It was better than I expected. You could definitely see to the left (forward). As for to the right (aft), the Magic Carpet orange track does get in the way if you want to see the aft/any part of the ship past that point. Obviously the closer you get to the Magic Carpet, the more 'obstructed' your view will be. I definitely could not see the aft of the ship due to the indented position and the Magic Carpet. I don't know if it would be better if further forward? Was it better than I imagined? Yes. However, I prefer my more forward cabins on the 'flat' furtherst part out and a clear view to the water. I'm booked again on the Beyond but chose Port Side for a few reasons. Here are some pictures from the balcony that should give you an idea. You'll see looking straight out to the horizon, it's perfect and even when looking out to either side you can see. If you want to see the actual starboard side towards the aft, you won't be able to...unless you have a go, go gadget neck. 😅 Some of the pictures are zoomed in so it appears you can almost touch the Magic carpet, but you can't, we were further away than what some of these pictures make it seem. Hope this helps! 😃 🍹 I have our cabins circled: It's lit at night. I liked it lit. It didn't distract and when curtains are closed, the light is not a problem. Here is one side of the track with some of the cabins 'within' it: I think being behind it, you could see towards the aft but not the bridge.
