Luggage at Debarkation

We have Viking Air and will be using the Viking airport transfer at the end of our BIE cruise in Bergen.  I 've read that your luggage has to be placed outside your cabin the night before debarkation.  Do we collect our bags at the Bergen airport before checking in?  I'd like to be able to put the items we need for our final night and morning into our bags before flying out, some items that can not go into the cabin.

Thanks

Sometimes you see your bags outside the transfer bus.

Definitely you check your own bags in at the airport check-in counter.

You will identify your bags before they're loaded onto the bus. A brief window of opportunity for you.
You will also then take possession of your bags as they are offloaded from the bus at the airport. Another window,
I prefer simply to shove any nightclothes into the carry on in the morning in our cabin and avoid the stress of opening bags in the hectic rush of loading & unloading onto the bus.

Left Bergen last week to fly home.

Luggage left outside cabin the night before, time will be stated in letter delivered to your cabin.

Coloured tags indicate time of disembarkation for you.

You wait in the living room until your allotted time and proceed ashore to the cruise terminal and go through immigration.

You identify your luggage in the terminal and take it to your allotted coach.

At the airport you identify it again as it is taken off the coach and you are shown where to go at the airport for your flight by the Viking staff there.

On Princess, we always take our luggage with us when we disembark.  Does Viking allow this?

Yes. You do not need to leave your luggage out the night before. Seems like a big inconvenience to carry bangs down the gangway.

Our bags have wheels, so it would only be inconvenient if there are a lot of stairs.  I'd rather not have the stress of remembering to take out clothes to wear the night before.  Also, we'd still need some kind of bag to carry off our clothes from the previous day and toiletries.

On Viking you can always take your own bags... the disembarkation gangway may not be smooth depending on what port you are ending in... it could be slight stairs like when you embark and disembark in various ports.

In Bergen there is a Deck 1 gangway that leads to the upper level of the cruise terminal. Once you take the escalator, stairs, or elevator to the ground floor you identify your bags and a porter loads them to your bus.

At Bergen airport we were asked to wait in the bus until bags had been unloaded to luggage carts, which a porter pushed to our checkin desk.

We solved the overnight “stuff” problem by keeping back a small wheeled carry on bag which we took off the ship ourselves, but then checked with our main suitcases. Best of both worlds!

Have been cruising for many years, several different lines, but 90% on RCI.  We always put our bags out the night before.  Simply keep out a set of clothes we will wear in the morning.  We set the bags out just before we go to bed... wearing our robes when we do it. 😉 Easy peasy.
