CelticMutt Posted September 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2023 Viking has changed our pre-cruise hotel to the Center Grandi. Any recos as to restaurants near (or not!) the hotel?
Rare cruisemom42 Posted September 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2023 I just stayed in Reykjavik for two nights but a bit closer to the center of downtown. Ate at an excellent restaurant called Fish Company -- looks like it would be about an 8 minute walk from your hotel (looking on Google maps). Of course there is also the famous hot dog stand, loved by Anthony Bourdain and Bill Clinton....
CDR2001 Posted September 3, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2023 We stayed at the Grandi, and there are a number of food options nearby, about 5 minutes walk. Ask the friendly desk staff how to get to the Maritime museum, lots of food places near that. There are a few nicer places, but we were so busy with our tours that we ate quick late meals most nights. There is a nice Food hall on that same street with many good choices. Our friends ate two meals in the restaurant attached to the Grandi and liked it. We liked the location, as we could also walk to the wharf where the whale watching boats depart. There are many more food places by the wharf, but we didn’t try them. They all looked popular, with menus on the windows. Enjoy!

ropomo Posted September 4, 2023 #5 Share Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) We stayed at the Hilton Canopy in central downtown on our Viking Homelands post extension and had dinner one night at Sjavargrillid and had a fantastic meal. Probably some of the best seafood we have ever had. Also very nice ambiance and the service was outstanding. We were closer to the Hallgrimskirkja and had a wonderful lamb meal at Cafe Loki.

Twitchly Posted September 5, 2023 #9 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Another option: grocery stores. I always enjoy visiting grocery stores in other countries, and you can pick up a light meal for much less. Restaurant food in Reykjavík can be crazy expensive. Rare WanderingBrit Posted September 5, 2023 #10 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Wherever you eat in Reykjavik, expect it to be impressively expensive.
jkadventures Posted September 5, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 5, 2023 We just stayed at the Center Grandi and had one of our best meals of the trip at Hofnin, about a 5min walk from the hotel. Suggest you go early. or make a reservation. Also just be aware of a major construction site directly behind the hotel. Tough to sleep during the day after a long overnight flight. Look for Bonus - large grocery store with plenty of selection.
