MSC Pack lunch

Does it exist the possibility to ask for a pack lunch (or just something to eat) whilst you are on an excursion?

No.  In fact, many ports (all over the world) prohibit bringing food ashore.

will depend on your destination.

In most Caribbean ports we are able to bring some prepackaged stuff like cereal or bread/muffins. My friends with a very picky eater kid used to bring challah bread, honey packets and hard boiled eggs with them ashore. Don't bring fruits or veggies.

How would bread products and eggs be prepacked and sealed? Not from the buffet, for sure. I would ot expect to be able to take any foods ashore unless it was something like a sealed granola bar from home.

baked goods are less likely to have pests in them than fruits/vegetables/raw meat.

We were provided a bagged lunch in the Yacht Club when we had long excursions in Ireland and Scotland. It was a simple small turkey or ham sandwich, a piece of fruit and a bottle of water.

EU and UK are not usually going to be a problem when on a ship based out of a local port.. when you are country hopping elsewhere in the world it becomes an issue.

Yes, we were in Yacht Club on the Splendida last October. The night before we disembarked in Genoa, we mentioned to the YC Concierge that we would be traveling to Venice by train the next day. He offered to have our butler arrange for a bagged lunch to take with when we left. The butler had it for us when he escorted us off the ship.

Hi @Heartgrove. Just saw your comment about disembarking in Genoa and traveling by train to Venice. We are doing that same thing next spring…our Seaview T/A from Rio stops in Genoa and we too are taking the train to Venice. I am wondering how quick was the disembarkation process and how early were you able to get the train ??

We traveled on a Saturday so the train schedules are not the same as a weekday. I had planned for a train around 10:00 am as I wasn't sure how quickly we could get to Genova Piazza Principe. We did not have an option for an Intercity so rode two Regionale trains to Milan. One thing not to do is a train through Alessandria!! We had a service disruption with bus substitution for part of the journey on Trenitalia. For the trip to Venice, we used the Italo train. I use either the Freccerosa or Italo trains. There is an Italo Lounge in Milano  Centrale which we used for a lunch break. Our arrival into Venice was approximately 5-5:30 pm. I can recommend the Filu Hotel by the Gulio bridge and vaporetto stop for the 4.1 and 4.2 vaporetto. Any other questions feel free to ask. We are currently cruising for another week so my response may be a bit delayed.

Hi @Heartgrove, and thanks for the reply. Hope you’re enjoying your cruise. I was thinking of a train around 10 also but wasn’t sure if we’d be pushing it to get off and to the station by then. We stopped in Genoa for the day on a Princess cruise last year and just walked to the train station which was pretty close to our pier, but am more concerned this time because this would be the end of our 18 days and we’d be collecting suitcases and doing the debarkation !! The earlier trains are faster with a shorter stop in Milan and we’d like to get to Venice as early as possible. Planning to stay 4 days in Venice, and then take a day trip to Verona before heading home. My by then 12 yo daughter wants to see   “ the balcony “ 😃😃.

She will love  "the balcony! Verona is worth a long day. We stayed in Verona two nights in a hotel just off the Arena on our first trip to Italy. From there we spent three nights in Merano. Love the Sudtirol! Then down to Rome and Civitavecchia for a 20 night cruise on HAL.

 

Use the SBB Swiss train site for planning, then book on the Trenitalia or Italo app. There is an excellent website "Seat 61" for train descriptions..
