I Won?

Brian, seems like a lot of balls got dropped here. But why is everyone necessarily blaming Celebrity when it was a Travelocity contest:confused:

Sorry, I just can't see how it falls on Celebrity at this point in the game. If I heard directly from Celebrity that all bets are off and they're not honoring a prize they had indeed offered through Travelocity, then I'd blast Celebrity every avenue I could find!

But right now your beef is with Travelocity no matter how sweet your contact there may be. They ran the contest; they have to honor the prize. It doesn't matter who pays for the prize, Travelocity promoted it ... they're ultimately responsible.

I just hope it all gets straightened out and you get your free cruise. Celebrity is an awesome cruise line. No matter what some may say here, you would not be disappointed.

Brian --

What a bummer. Many years ago (way before Travelocity or Cruise Critic forums even existed) I "won" a free Windjammer Barefoot cruise. The supposedly available dates and conditions were so restrictive and the airfare so high that I gave up and never went. We should have our own forum. I would love to hear if anyone has actually gone on a free contest cruise other than the ones they win at HAL Bingo.

Years ago, I "won" a cruise from Premier Cruises. I was told to give four dates I'd like. I chose dates I thought wouldn't be sold out. However, Premier said each date was indeed sold out. I wrote letters and made calls so I was allowed to give four more dates. Again, each date was supposedly sold out.

I gave up, and never enjoyed my "prize".

Well, perhaps as a result of posting here and somebody somewhere waving their magic wand...

...just received a call from my contact at Travelocity offering tickets for an 11-day cruise on Mercury, departing Ensenada May 8 for Alaska and Seattle! (Ironically, one of the port calls is SF - so I'll be able to pick up anything I've forgotten from home! )

Thanks Infopaul and anyone else who helped make this happen!

Didnt' ask, but probably X...

Someone from their office finally returned my Travelocity contact's phonecalls (after promising to do so for weeks) and gave her some info that she and I could roll with!

That's so exciting, Brian! If you remember, we originally had a cruise booked on the Mercury for this year (we were goiing to try to see you in SF;)). We had found an awsome cabin based on info I got from the Celebrity boards. I think I still have the pictures and it wasn't all that expensive. Of course, by now those cabins may be gone.

Are they giving you a cabin choice? Let me know if you want to see the pictures ... I can send them to your email.

I am so glad Travelocity came through for you!:)

Hi Brian,

I've done the repo on the Mercury from San Pedro to Seattle. Wonderful cruise. If you have a balcony cabin, make sure to order hot chocolate and cookies, wrap yourself up in a warm blankie and just watch the scenery go by. One of the most delightful things I've ever done.

You're going to 'love' some of the artwork aboard. I was sure my nephew made the macaroni art. The holey (and I don't mean blessed) pear outside the card room was a real hoot.

I'm still recovering from the Noordam cruise. Those 'chills' I had on the last night turned into a major bacterial infection that was diagnosed by the ship's nurse as 'extreme anxiety syndrome'. I wonder what nursing school gave her her hat and pin???

I miss all of my old/new friends.

Joyce

Way to go Brian!!! By chance are you stopping in LA or San Diego? A few of us will be on the "Girls Only" cruise departing from LA and heading to Ensenada on 5/8 - we stop in San Diego...

We will be on RCI, "something of the seas" (I can't remember!!! )

Oh how funny!

We leave Ensenada on the 8th, then stop in SF on the 10th as we head to Alaska...

Will have to ask the Captain to slow down and sound the ships whistle so that we can wave at each other!!!

:D

(What's Sonny doing? Does he wanna come w/ Scotty and I? ;) )

Brian Congratulations:) I am so glad everything worked out. We miss you by one day in Ketchikan:( We will be there on the 12th. That would of been neat if we could have met up. Again I am thrilled everything worked out. I will definitely be looking forward to you review and comparisons. When we were going to take our second cruise after our first being RCL we were trying to decided between Celebrity Mercury and HAL's Zuiderdam. Well, you know what we decided and we have been happy with that decision:)

Laura I believe you will be on Monarch of the Seas. She was the ship that Tom and I took our first ever cruise on. She is nice for an older ship and not being overly big.

I'm getting the impression Brian isn't talking to me:( .

Either that or your answer is not interested? Don't get to choose your cabin?

Sorry Heather, I missed the last two posts on the last page!

:o

Only getting an Outside - Maybe I'll see if there are any balconies available when I get there, but I'm hoping for a Category 4 on Vista Deck....

...can't be any worse than that strange aft-facing stateroom on Amsterdam!

Joyce--

Has your extreme-anxiety passed? Maybe you had a premonition about the Port Authority mess in NYC? ;)

Congratulations -- Travelocity is now an honest internet travel service and Celebrity is now vindicated (or who or whatever was getting in your way) --- I am always happy to read about the happy ending -- could it be the power of these Boards? Hey, who cares as long as it is finally right.

Have a great cruise and enjoy Alaska.

The IV antibiotics and a week on Cipro seems to have gotten my 'high anxiety' under control. My kidney specialist said I got to him just in time to not need hospitalization. It came to my mind that maybe the 'nurse' didn't want to report any kind of serious illness that would have to be sent to the CDC.

On another note, I never did get the credit for the unused internet minutes even though the front desk assured me that my name and cabin number were on the list. I'll protest the bill when it hits my credit card.

All in all, HAL really dissapointed me in the performance department on this cruise. Loved the ship, didn't care for the staff's 'can't do' attitude. If I treated my client's the same way I would be in very big trouble.

Can't wait to see you again. I'll let you know when I'm in the SF area.

Love,

Joyce

With the Long ago so called wiining now coming about as the Squeaky Wheeled had to get some Grease... it is a relief...

A lot of companies do this ...stuff that I do hope is a nicer non-editable word here..

Service is that ..giving people, clients, prospects, guests..etc... those which mostly pay a service and/or services for the products both tangible and intangible...

But without proper training and Company Policies in place how can it be done well.

The American Pinacle of Commerce and Pride Mc Donalds Corporation had it done right , training well and constant consistancy Worldwide...whether in Blooming Grove, Illinois, NYC, NY, Madison Heights, VA, Montreal, CA Lucerne, CH, Vienna IT, MUNICH, DE, Tel AViv ..Hong Kong.. anywhere it is the same great services with a smile :D and the CUSTOMER is ALWAYS RIGHT!

Only once in my life I went in to one in Bellville, NJ before bowling and they were out of a staple..yes Hamburgers...

As Joyce had just said it is such a truism herewith:::cool:

The people serving the people paying have to have a CAN DO Attitude..this is why they have the jobs huh?

With Carnival so large you need qualified and trained people to oversee the workers now more.

The other firms as TravelOcity etc.. do as well...
