I have a soft spot for Artania as she was my first ‘modern day’ cruise, South America in 1999 as the original Royal Princess.  EM

Same here with the ‘soft spot’ for the original. After my mom passed away in 1997 I took my dad on Royal Princess for a getaway change of scenery - it's one of my fondest memories of being with him and really getting to know him. Dad passed in 2021.

My mom passed in 1998, and is the reason We could afford the cruise, which introduced my sister to cruising.  EM

Today, Jan. 18 we have Emerald Princess, transiting the new locks.  Here she is in the third lock at Cocoli, and passing Pedro Miguel.  She appears to have some scuffs on her port side, needing a little touch up…

I am assuming the partial transit is not cancelled.  A change between Cristobal and Colon is primarily a distinction without a difference.  The piers in Cristobal are primarily for container operations and are on the west side of Colon, for whatever reason the larger Princess ships have been using Cristobal instead of Colon.  The Colon facility is on the east side of Colon about a mile and a half across town, it is more geared for cruise ships and where the majority of cruise ships stop when they call on Colon.  It may just be because of available berths or lack of them necessitate the change.

The no excursions perhaps is just a temporary measure until things are finalized.  On partial transits normally the ships only call on Colon or Cristobal to pick up passengers who disembarked the ship in Gatun Lake for shore excursions.

Today was Zuiderdam on her world cruise, Ruby Princess and Carnival Pride doing partials.  Unfortunately after their entrances, the webcams stopped updating, or appearing at all.

@Essiesmom same here for me at least it was pretty bad day for the Panama Canal Web Cams. They all seem to freeze up, lock up, or be out of commission. Don’t know if it was my ISP or iPhone, but couldn’t get a single one of them to work all day. Some really GREAT and UNIQUE ships coming through between tomorrow and Saturday! Looking forward to your pictures!!! 🥰

Today it’s Ambience, another world cruiser.  I can’t help it…I e always thought this was an ugly design…

I remember being on her in Alaska as the original Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess - was on her twiceonce each before and after her refit. The atrium post-refit was gorgeous. That giant domed casino/lounge was quite revolutionary for the time, but not unlike a lighted massive cavern. Loved the Bengal Lounge. Fond memories. 🥰
