LISworld Posted November 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2023 We are planning on a long (120+ days) world voyage with Viking and would like to know if anyone had similar experience whereby they requested extra insulin supply for long trip duration from the health insurance company. Currently, we have 90 days supply on the prescription. Thank you in advance for your input. Best Regards, Steven.

Shelf life of each vial and keeping it at proper temp prior to and after opening plus extra syringes and testing for a lengthy trip are best resolved by those who know your medical needs and can work with your insurance to obtain over rides in excess of the 90 day window

SargassoPirate Posted November 7, 2023 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2023 Not sure about insulin shelf life, but on other prescriptions I have had the medical provider call the insurance company and request an extra supply. Never had a problem. Good luck to you.

Go-Bucks! Posted November 21, 2023 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2023 Your pharmacy can contact your insurance company to allow you to get a refill filled in advance (up to 90 days)...it's called a "vacation override." Of course, you still have to have enough refills on the prescription to allow that. If you don't, you'll have to ask your provider for a refill on the medication. Mich3554 Posted December 6, 2023 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2023 We had a woman on our world cruise that came on board with a 138 day of Humira. I know it’s not the same thing, but she traveled with a carry on bag full of her meds and cold packs. Her meds were stored in the medical facility and she went to get them as necessary. She got a vacation override, like many do. She then had a spare suitcase for her return home.

Etta1213 Posted January 11 #10 Share Posted January 11 (edited) One of the he women currently on Royal Caribbean's world cruise mentioned a few days ago (Thoughts, Impressions...thread) that she had contacted the RC special needs people ahead of the cruise, and one of her meds is filled on the ship. I was surprised. This might be new, and might be because Royal is doing its first world cruise. She goes by "CSHS1979".
